2024/25 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 5

West Ham VS Chelsea

West Ham host Chelsea in another London Derby! West Ham drew 1-1 at Fulham last weekend and they currently sit 14th in the table. When it comes to Chelsea, they won late at Bournemouth last time out and they are currently 8th in the league. In their previous 27 meetings, West Ham have won 8 games compared to Chelsea’s 14. For West Ham United, it’s important for them to try and pick up a victory here! The Hammers are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve lost both of their home games (in the league) so far. As for Chelsea, this is a game they need to be getting something from. The Blues are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the best away record in the league!

My Prediction: 2-2

 


Aston Villa VS Wolves

Aston Villa have beaten both Everton and Young Boys in the past 7 days and they currently find themselves 5th in the league. When it comes to Wolves, they’ve lost to both Newcastle (League) and Brighton (Cup) this past week and they currently find themselves inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th place). In their previous 19 meetings, Villa have won 6 games compared to 8 wins for Wolves! For Aston Villa, you’d expect them to win this game! Villa are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.8) and they currently have the 9th-best home record in the league! As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they need to start picking up points! Wolves are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’re still yet to get a win on the board this league season!

Fulham VS Newcastle

Fulham have drawn 1-1 against both West Ham and Preston this week (they lost to Preston on penalties) and they currently sit 12th in the table. When it comes to Newcastle, they won 2-1 at Wolves last time out and they are currently third in the league! In their previous 19 meetings, Fulham have won 6 times whilst Newcastle have won 10 times. Interestingly, Newcastle have won each of the previous 4 meetings without conceding a goal! For Fulham, they need to start winning more matches! The Cottagers are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’ve drawn each of their last 3 games 1-1! As for Newcastle United, this is an important game for them! The Magpies are ranked 5th in GPG (1.5) and they’re unbeaten so far this season!

Leicester VS Everton

Leicester host Everton in what already feels like a massive game for both! Leicester conceded late in a 2-all draw at Crystal Palace last weekend and they currently sit 15th in the table. When it comes to Everton, they let another 2-goal lead slip at Aston Villa last weekend before they got knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Southampton on penalties! Everton are currently bottom of the league! In their previous 20 meetings, both sides have won 7 games each! For Leicester City, they have to take advantage of being the home team! The Foxes are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they’re still yet to get a win in the league this season. As for Everton, they have to get a result here! The Toffees are ranked 14th in GPG (1.3) and they currently have the worst away record in the league!

Liverpool VS Bournemouth

Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest last weekend before they bounced back with a great 3-1 win at A.C. Milan midweek! Liverpool are currently 4th in the league. When it comes to Bournemouth, they somehow lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea last time out and they currently sit 11th in the table. In their previous 18 meetings, Liverpool have won 15 games compared to just the 2 wins for Bournemouth! For Liverpool, they need to bounce back here! The Reds are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.8) and they currently have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for AFC Bournemouth, they’ll be up for this one! The Cherries are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they’re unbeaten away from home (in the league) so far this season!

Southampton VS Ipswich

Southampton host Ipswich in another big game towards the bottom! Southampton lost 3-0 at home to Manchester United last weekend before they knocked Everton out of the Carabao Cup, and they currently find themselves inside the Relegation Zone (in 19th). When it comes to Ipswich, they drew 0-0 at Brighton last time out and they currently sit 17th in the table. In their previous 6 meetings, both sides have picked up 2 wins each! For Southampton, they’re the home team which means they need to win this game. The Saints are ranked 20th in GPG (0.3) and they’re still yet to get a point on the board! As for Ipswich Town, this is a key game for them! The Tractor Boys are ranked 19th in GPG (0.5) and they’ve drawn each of their last 3 games (in 90 minutes).

Tottenham VS Brentford

Tottenham lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last weekend before they won late at Coventry midweek and they currently sit 13th in the table. When it comes to Brentford, they lost 2-1 at Manchester City last week before they beat Leyton Orient in the Cup and they currently find themselves 9th in the league. In their previous 7 meetings, Spurs have won 3 games compared to Brentford’s 1. For Tottenham Hotspur, they have to win this game! Spurs are ranked 5th in GPG (1.5) and they currently have the 7th-best home record in the league. As for Brentford, they’ll really fancy themselves to get a result here! The Bees are also ranked 5th in GPG (1.5), but they do currently have the third-worst away record in the league.

Crystal Palace VS Manchester United

Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with Leicester last weekend before they won at QPR midweek and they currently sit 16th in the table. When it comes to Manchester United, they’ve thrashed both Southampton and Barnsley in the past  7 days and they currently find themselves in 10th place. In their previous 25 meetings, Palace have won 6 games to Man United’s 15. For Crystal Palace, they need to start winning! The Eagles are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’re still yet to win in the league this season! As for Manchester United, they’ll be hoping to keep their momentum rolling. United are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve scored 10 goals in their last 2 games (and they haven’t conceded either).

Brighton VS Nottingham Forest

Two strong starters face off as Brighton host Nottingham Forest! Brighton drew 0-0 against Ipswich last weekend before they beat Wolves in the Cup midweek, and they currently find themselves in 6th position. When it comes to Nottingham Forest, they stunned Liverpool 1-0 last time out and they currently sit 7th in the table! In their previous 16 meetings, Brighton have won 7 games whilst Forest have won 4. For Brighton and Hove Albion, they need to try and get back to winning ways. The Seagulls are ranked 5th in GPG (1.5) and they’re still unbeaten in all competitions! As for Nottingham Forest, there’s no reason why they can’t win this one! Forest are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’re also unbeaten this campaign (in 90 minutes)!

Manchester City VS Arsenal

Two Title Rivals face off early as Manchester City welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium! Manchester City beat Brentford last weekend before they drew nil-nil against Inter on Wednesday, and they are currently top of the league. When it comes to Arsenal, they won 1-0 at Arsenal last week before they drew 0-0 at Atalanta last night, and they currently sit second in the table! In their previous 36 meetings, Man City have won 20 games compared to Arsenal’s 8! For Manchester City, they’ll be aiming to go for 5 wins out of 5! City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.8) and they currently have the best home record in the league. As for Arsenal, this is a massive test for them! The Gunners are ranked 5th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the 4th-best away record in the league!
