A Brand-New Marina Bay Circuit Layout
The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix sees a brand-new layout being run as the tricky but clumsy section of corners around and under the grandstand in Sector 3 have been replaced by a new straight that cuts all of those corners out. I’m intrigued to see how this goes because it’s going to affect Qualifying quite a bit, but it should also hopefully give us some overtaking during the Race. Also, it should make the race shorter which is a good thing for everyone.
A Special Gulf Livery for Williams
Williams will run a Special Gulf-themed Livery for the next 3 races in Singapore, Japan, and Qatar. The livery that Williams will be running was selected by fans in a vote and I have to say, it looks pretty cool. Williams are currently sitting in a pretty good 7th place in the Constructors’ Championship and they’ll be hoping that their new livery will bring them some extra performance.
Alfa Romeo (Sauber) retain Zhou Guanyu for 2024!
In news that surprised me this morning, Alfa Romeo announced that Zhou Guanyu has signed a contract extension to race for the team in 2024. I like Zhou, I think he’s proved a lot of people (including myself) wrong these past two seasons, but I’m surprised he’s kept his seat because I was fully expecting Theo Pourchaire to join Sauber from next season. Let’s see if this gives Zhou some confidence to pick up a good result this weekend as Alfa Romeo need points.
McLaren Reveal yet another Special Livery
Continuing with their 60-year celebration, McLaren have got another new livery for the next two weekends. The main colour is black with Papaya highlights and I have to say, I love this livery. There’s something about McLaren Special Liveries that just hit different. The team could also be on for a pretty good weekend if their last two Special Liveries have told us anything.
Can Sergio Perez Win for Red Bull?
Red Bull have dominated the 2023 Formula 1 Season, winning all 14 Races so far this Season, but 12 of those wins have gone to Max Verstappen whilst it’s been a difficult ride for Sergio Perez. Sergio currently finds himself 145 points behind his Double World Champion teammate in the Championship and he hasn’t beaten his teammate since winning in Baku. However, Checo did win in Singapore last year in what was for me his greatest-ever drive. Also, Max was on a winning streak that ended in Singapore this time last year so maybe it’s a “bogie track” for him. I highly doubt it, but you never know!
My Predictions for Singapore Qualifying
Max Verstappen
Fernando Alonso
Lewis Hamilton
Sergio Perez
