2023 NFL Week 5 Preview and Predictions: Part 1

Teams on a Bye Week:

Seattle Seahawks (3-1)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)

Los Angeles Chargers (2-2)

Cleveland Browns (2-2)

(0-4) Chicago Bears @ Washington Commanders (2-2)

This week’s Thursday Night Football sees The Commanders host The Bears in Washington. The Commanders were just edged out by the Philadelphia Eagles last week and they currently sit third in the NFC East with a 2-2 record. As for Chicago, they blew a 14-point 4th Quarter lead against the Denver Broncos and they are currently bottom of the NFC North as one of only two teams in the entire league yet to get a win on the board. In the end, I fully expect Washington to win this game. The Commanders are a decent team whilst the Chicago Bears are once again proving to be a pretty poor team.

(2-2) Jacksonville Jaguars @ Buffalo Bills (3-1)

The Jacksonville Jaguars have stayed in London, but this time they play in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo Bills continued their rampant run of form by thrashing the Miami Dolphins 48-20 in Week 4 and they currently lead the AFC East with a 3-1 record. As for Jacksonville, they outplayed the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium last time out and they currently find themselves second in the AFC South as all four teams in that Division have a 2-2 record. In the end, I’m picking The Buffalo Bills to go and pick up another dominant win. Whilst the London crowd will probably be right behind the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Buffalo Bills have looked untouchable in their last few games and I expect that to continue here.

(2-2) Houston Texans @ Atlanta Falcons (2-2)

The Atlanta Falcons were easily second-best in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week and they are now second in the NFC South with a 2-2 record. As for Houston, they stuffed the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 and they are currently third in the AFC South as one of 4 teams in the Division to have a 2-2 record. In the end, I’m going to say that The Texans beat The Falcons in this one. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I really like C. J. Stroud and Houston have got some momentum behind them right now whilst Atlanta seem to be going in the opposite direction.

(0-4) Carolina Panthers @ Detroit Lions (3-1)

The Detroit Lions picked up a big win in Green Bay on Thursday Night Football last week (34-20) and they currently lead the NFC North with a record of 3-1. As for Carolina, they lost again last week thanks to the Minnesota Vikings and they are currently bottom of the NFC South with a terrible 0-4 start. In the end, I fully expect Detroit to pick up the W in this one. The Lions are playing well right now and they should breeze past a Panthers team that are all over the place right now.

(2-2) Tennessee Titans @ Indianapolis Colts (2-2)

The Indianapolis Colts suffered an overtime loss against the Los Angeles Rams last week, but they still lead the AFC South with a 2-2 record. As for Tennessee, they smashed the Cincinnati Bengals 27-3 in Week 4 and whilst they are technically bottom of the AFC South with a 2-2 record, they are on the same record as all of their Division rivals. In the end, I’m picking Tennessee to beat Indianapolis here. This will probably be a tight game that either side could win so I’ve gone with The Titans because of a feeling.

(1-3) New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins (3-1)

The Miami Dolphins’ perfect start to the new season ended in a thrashing by the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 and they now sit second in the AFC East with a 3-1 record as a result. As for New York, they were thrashed at home on Monday Night Football by the Seattle Seahawks in their last game and they currently find themselves in last place in the NFC East as the only team with a negative record. In the end, I fully expect Miami to bounce back in style this week. Even though The Dolphins’ momentum took a big hit last week, they should still be good enough to comfortably beat a struggling Giants side.

(2-2) New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots (1-3)

The New England Patriots were thrashed 38-3 by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 and they are currently third in the AFC East with a record of 1-3. As for New Orleans, they were comfortably beaten at home by Division rivals Tampa Bay last week and they are now third in the NFC South with a 2-2 record as a result. In the end, I’m actually going to pick New England to win this game. Either side could easily win this game and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these teams was to win this game by a big margin. The reason I’ve picked The Patriots is because I feel like they’ll bounce back after a shocker in Week 4.
