2023 NFL Week 17 Preview and Predictions: Part 1

(6-9) New York Jets @ Cleveland Browns (10-5)

The Cleveland Browns picked up their third successive victory last weekend (in Houston) and they currently sit second in the AFC North with a good 10-5 record. If the season ended today, The Browns would take the Number 5 seed heading into the Playoffs (on the AFC side of things). As for New York, they beat the Washington Commanders last time out, but as it stands, The Jets have already been ruled out of Playoff contention due to being third in the AFC East with a disappointing 6-9 record. In terms of my Prediction, I fully expect Cleveland to win this game. It would be an utter disaster for them if anything else was to happen.

(11-4) Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys (10-5)

The Dallas Cowboys host the Detroit Lions in a huge Saturday Night Football clash! The Dallas Cowboys lost for the second straight week last time out (in Miami) and if the season ended today, The Cowboys would finish second in the NFC East with a 10-5 record which would ultimately give them the Number 5 seed in the NFC Playoffs. As for Detroit, they picked up a big win in Minnesota last weekend and they currently lead the NFC North with a really good 11-4 record. As it stands, The Lions occupy the Number 3 seed in the NFC. In terms of my Prediction, I am going to go with Dallas to win this one. The main reason for this is simply because The Cowboys are 7-0 at home this year.

(4-11) New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills (9-6)

The Buffalo Bills won for the third straight week last time out (at The Chargers) and they currently sit second in the AFC East with a 9-6 record. As it stands, The Bills are occupying a Playoff spot (Number 6 seed). As for New England, they actually managed to beat the Denver Broncos last time out, but if the season ended today, The Patriots would still finish bottom of the AFC East with a poor 4-11 record which would also see them end up as the worst team in the AFC. In terms of my Prediction, I expect Buffalo to destroy New England in this one. The Bills are very good at scoring points and I expect them to score a lot on Sunday!

(7-8) Atlanta Falcons @ Chicago Bears (6-9)

The Chicago Bears were victorious against the Arizona Cardinals last weekend, but they are still currently bottom of the NFC North with a 6-9 record. Amazingly, as it stands, The Bears are still in Playoff contention. As for Atlanta, they cruised past the Indianapolis Colts last week and they currently sit second in the NFC South with a mediocre record of 7-8. If the season ended today, The Falcons wouldn’t make the Playoffs. In terms of my Prediction, I am going to back The Falcons to beat The Bears. Records wise these teams are quite close, but I would certainly rate Atlanta as the better team in what is a must-win game for them.

(7-8) Las Vegas Raiders @ Indianapolis Colts (8-7)

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a setback last week as they lost to the Atlanta Falcons, but if the season ended today, finishing second in the AFC South with an 8-7 record would just be enough for The Colts to sneak into the Playoffs. As for Las Vegas, they somehow beat the Kansas City Chiefs last week and they are currently third in the AFC West with a sub-par 7-8 record. As it stands, The Raiders are still in Playoff contention. In terms of my Prediction, I am going to back The Colts to win this one. Neither team can afford to lose this game so I’m simply backing the home team.

(8-7) Los Angeles Rams @ New York Giants (5-10)

The New York Giants lost in Philadelphia on Christmas Day in their last game and they currently sit third in the NFC East with a disappointing 5-10 record. As it stands, The Giants’ Playoff hopes are over. As for LA, they beat the New Orleans Saints last Thursday Night, and if the season ended today, finishing second in the NFC West with a decent 8-7 record would be enough for them to take the Number 6 seed in the NFC. In terms of my Prediction, I expect LA to win this game. The Rams are playing quite well at the minute whilst The Giants just want the season to end.

(3-12) Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles (11-4)

The Philadelphia Eagles finally got back to winning ways on Christmas Day (against the New York Giants) and they currently lead the NFC East with a good record of 11-4. If the season ended today, The Eagles would enter the Playoffs as the Number 2 seed (in the NFC). As for Arizona, they lost in Chicago last time out, and as it stands, The Cardinals are bottom of the NFC West with a 3-10 record which also happens to be the second-worst record in the entire league. In terms of my Prediction, The Eagles should win this comfortably. Whether they will is another matter entirely, but I still expect The Eagles to leave this game as the victors.

(7-8) New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-7)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints in a huge NFC South matchup. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their 4th-straight game last time out (against the Jacksonville Jaguars) and they currently lead the NFC South with a decent 8-7 record. If the season ended today, The Bucs would take the Number 4 seed in the NFC. As for New Orleans, they suffered a crucial loss against The Rams last Thursday, and as it stands, being third in the NFC South with a 7-8 record is not enough for them to make the Playoffs. In terms of my Prediction, I think Tampa Bay will win this game. This is a huge game for both teams, and I’m going with The Bucs because they’re playing better right now.
