2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix Preview: 5 Big Talking Points Heading into the Weekend

Viva Las Vegas!

After years of planning and hype, we’ve finally come around to the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix! The Las Vegas Strip Circuit is the second longest circuit on the calendar (behind Spa) and the 17-corner Circuit will wind its way past a bunch of famous monuments including the Las Vegas Boulevard (aka the Las Vegas Strip). In the end, Formula 1 have spent a bucket load of money on making this Round into an event, but at the end of the day, it’s the actual racing on track that matters the most.

Can Alpha Tauri Overtake Williams for 7th in the

Constructors’ Championship?

Alpha Tauri have been on an absolute roll recently which has seen them pick up 16 points in the last 3 Rounds and it’s also helped them climb from 10th in the Constructors’ Standings to 8th. However, given the recent form of both Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo, it’s not out of the question that Red Bull’s sister team can’t catch Williams for 7th in the Championship (they’re currently only 7 points behind).

Mercedes Have to Bounce Back After a Terrible Sao Paulo Outing

It’s pretty fair to say that Mercedes’ weekend in Sao Paulo last time out was one of their worst for a while. The car looked slow and neither Lewis Hamilton nor George Russell were able to perform any sort of miracle. Still, Mercedes do have a 20-point lead over Ferrari in the battle for second in the Constructors’ Championship, but another tricky weekend in Las Vegas and the German team could be in some serious trouble.

Will Aston Martin Continue where they left off in Interlagos?

After a really tough run of results, Aston Martin finally found some form in Interlagos as Fernando Alonso took home arguably his best Podium of the season whilst Lance Stroll also had a great drive to finish 5th. It’s now important for Aston that they try and close the season out just as well and if they’re able to score big points again this weekend, they could be hot on the heals of McLaren for 4th in the Constructors’.

Plenty of Special Liveries

Due to it being the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend, most of the 10 Formula 1 teams have debuted a Special Livery for the event. These teams include; Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine, Williams, Alpha Tauri, and Alfa Romeo. Personally, I really like the Red Bull, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo designs as they all feel a bit different whilst the other team's liveries are either a step backwards compared to their usual one or it just looks a bit uninspired. Still, my opinion will probably change after seeing them out on track come tomorrow.

My Predictions for Vegas Qualifying

  1. Max Verstappen

  2. Charles Leclerc

  3. Fernando Alonso

  4. Lance Stroll

  5. Lewis Hamilton
