UEFA Champions League:
Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich (4-3 on Aggregate)
Two late goals from Joselu meant Real Madrid stunned Bayern Munich to head back to yet another UEFA Champions League Final! Serge Gnabry had a great chance to give Bayern Munich the lead which he made a bit of a mess of (he got caught between shooting and passing) before Vinicius Junior hit the post and Rodrygo’s rebound was saved by Manuel Neuer. It was a good save by Neuer, but Rodrygo really should’ve scored. Andriy Lunin then pulled out a good save to push Harry Kane’s volleyed effort wide before Rodrygo came within a whisker of giving Real Madrid the lead! Manuel Neuer then made another decent save to deny Vinicius Junior before Alphonso Davies fired Bayern in front in the 68th minute. This is a superb strike from Davies! Madrid then thought they’d equalised thanks to an own goal, but the goal was rightly chalked out for a foul by Nacho. Vinicius then had a great chance which he blasted wide before Real were level in the 88th minute as Joselu scored after a terrible bit of goalkeeping by Manuel Neuer! And then, in the 91st minute, after a VAR check, Joselu’s second goal was given to pull out another crazy Real Madrid comeback in the UEFA Champions League! Overall, what a win for Real Madrid! Madrid go to Granada on the weekend as they count down the days to yet another appearance in a Champions League Final! As for Bayern Munich, this will really hurt them! Bayern host Wolfsburg next time out, but they now know that they will end the season trophy-less!
PSG 0-1 Borussia Dortmund (0-2 on Aggregate)
A brilliant defensive performance resulted in Borussia Dortmund beating Paris Saint Germain to book a place at Wembley! Ousmane Dembele had a half chance which he blasted wide before Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled out a great save to deny Karim Adeyemi. Both Adeyemi and Donnarumma did superbly well here! At the start of the Second Half, Warren Zaire-Emery hit the post for PSG before Mats Hummels headed home in the 50th minute to give Borussia Dortmund control of the tie! Nuno Mendes then hit the post for the hosts before Kylian Mbappe managed to hit the bar from about 7 yards out! Unbelievably, Vitinha then hit the crossbar for PSG and that was all she wrote in terms of their CL Final Chances! In the end, it’s another disappointing moment in the Champions League for Paris Saint Germain. PSG take on Toulouse on the weekend, and they will simply just have to go again next year! As for Borussia Dortmund, I’m so impressed by them, they’re absolutely superb defensively! Dortmund go to Mainz next time out, but all their focus will now be on their massive Champions League Final in three weeks time!
UEFA Europa League:
Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Roma (4-2 on Aggregate)
Another late goal ensured that Bayer Leverkusen remained undefeated whilst also booking their place in the Europa League Final! Lorenzo Pellegrini had a great chance for Roma which he headed straight at Matej Kovar before Exequiel Palacios hit the post for Bayer Leverkusen. Mile Svilar then pulled off a great double save to keep it at nil-nil before Roma were awarded a penalty after a coming-together between Sardar Azmoun and Jonathan Tah. Leandro Paredes then stepped up and scored to make it 1-0 just before Halftime! In the Second Half, Svilar pulled out another decent save, this time to deny Jonas Hofmann, before the visitors were given a second penalty for a handball against Adam Hlozek. Paredes then stepped up and scored again to make it 2-0 to Roma and 2-2 on aggregate! Amine Adli then saw his effort go just wide of the post before Bayer Leverkusen were back level on aggregate courtesy of a Gianluca Mancini own goal! The goalkeeping by Mile Svilar is absolutely horrendous here! And then, in the 97th minute, Josip Stanisic scored to somehow keep Leverkusen’s invincible season going! In the end, I can’t understand how Bayer Leverkusen keep doing this! Leverkusen head to VfL Bochum on the weekend as they look to keep their unbeaten year going! As for AS Roma, they nearly got the win here! Roma take on Atalanta next time out as they look to end the season in the European places.
Atalanta 3-0 Marseille (4-1 on Aggregate)
Atalanta thrashed Marseille in the Second Leg to book their ticket to Dublin! Pau Lopez pulled out a really impressive hand to push Charles De Ketelaere’s effort onto the post before Gianluca Scamacca had a decent chance which he dragged wide. Scamacca then hit the bar for Atalanta before Lopez once again denied De Ketelaere on the rebound! However, in the 30th minute, Atalanta finally had the lead as Ademola Lookman scored via a deflection! In the Second Half, Iliman Ndiaye had a great opportunity to equalise which he lobbed just wide before Atalanta’s lead doubled thanks to a great strike from Matteo Ruggeri! Marseille then hit the crossbar from a free kick before El Bilal Touré made it 3-0 in the 95th minute whilst the fireworks were already going off! Overall, what a brilliant night for Atalanta! Atalanta host Roma on Sunday before they eventually prepare for their first-ever European Final! As for Marseille, it’s a bad day for them. Marseille take on Lorient next time out, and it looks like a very tall ask for them to make it into Europe again.
UEFA Europa Conference League:
Olympiacos 2-0 Aston Villa (6-2 on Aggregate)
Olympiacos’ celebrations started as they breezed past Aston Villa to book their place in their first-ever Major European Final! After just 10 minutes, Olympiacos stretched their aggregate lead as Ayoub El Kaabi found the back of the net to make it 1-0 on the night! Konstantinos Tzolakis then made a good save to keep Leon Bailey’s effort out before El Kaabi scored again from absolute nowhere to make it 6-2 on aggregate in the 78th minute! Unbelievably, the assist came from the Goalie Tzolakis! Overall, what a fantastic two games from Olympiacos! Olympiacos head to PAOK on the weekend as they look to keep their Greek Super League Title hopes alive before their biggest game in a long, long time! As for Aston Villa, they simply look drained! Villa host Liverpool next time out as they look to secure a place in the Champions League (for next season).
Club Brugge 1-1 Fiorentina (3-4 on Aggregate)
Another late goal was enough for Fiorentina to edge out Club Brugge and return straight back to the UEFA Europa Conference League Final! After 20 minutes, Club Brugge had the lead as Hans Vanaken’s cross managed to miss everyone and find the back of the net to make it all square on aggregate! Nicolas Gonzalez then had a great chance to score which he failed to take before Andrea Belotti saw his rebounded effort head just wide of the post! Christian Kouame then smashed the bar with a brilliant volleyed effort before Denis Odoi had a golden chance for Brugge which he made a mess of! Fiorentina then hit the woodwork again courtesy of a Cristiano Biraghi free-kick before Kouame hit the woodwork again! Fiorentina were then awarded a slightly contentious penalty (I’m not sure about it) which Lucas Beltran stepped up and scored to restore the visitors' aggregate lead! Amazingly, Denis Odoi then got a second Yellow card whilst not being on the pitch before Pietro Terracciano made a massive save to deny Vanaken a second! In the end, Club Brugge were unlucky here! Brugge host Union St. Gilloise on Monday as they look to keep their Belgian Pro League Title charge alive! As for Fiorentina, it’s now back-to-back Conference League Finals for them! Fiorentina take on Monza next time out, but their focus will most likely be on Athens in a couple of week’s time!
