2023/24 UEFA European Football Preview: Semi-Finals, Leg 1

UEFA Champions League:

Bayern Munich VS Real Madrid

Bayern Munich host Real Madrid in a mouth-watering Semi-Final tie! Bayern Munich are coming into this game off the back of a 2-1 win over Frankfurt and they currently sit second in the Bundesliga. When it comes to Real Madrid, they enter this game off the back of a 1-0 win at Real Sociedad and they are currently top of LaLiga. In their previous 8 meetings, Bayern have only won once whilst Madrid have won 6 times! When it comes to success in this competition, Bayern have won this competition 6 times whilst Real are record-breaking 14-time winners! Overall, this should be a really exciting game between the two best teams left in the competition.

My Prediction: 2-2

Borussia Dortmund VS PSG

Borussia Dortmund and PSG collide for the third time in this year’s UEFA Champions League. Borussia Dortmund are coming into this game off the back of a 4-1 loss at RB Leipzig and they currently sit 5th in the Bundesliga. When it comes to PSG, they enter this game off the back of a 3-3 draw with Le Havre and they are currently top of Ligue 1. In their previous 6 meetings, Dortmund have won once compared to two wins for Paris Saint Germain. When it comes to success in this competition, Dortmund have won the Champions League once (1997) whilst PSG are still waiting for their first crown. Overall, this is a big game, but especially for Borussia Dortmund as they have to take a lead into Paris.

My Prediction: 3-2

UEFA Europa League:

Marseille VS Atalanta

Marseille host Atalanta in an exciting First Leg tie. Marseille are coming into this game off the back of a 2-1 win over Lens and they currently sit 7th in Ligue 1. When it comes to Atalanta, they enter this game off the back of a 2-0 win over Empoli and they are currently 6th in Serie A. When it comes to success in this competition, neither team has won it, but Marseille have reached 3 Finals and they have won the Champions League once (1993). Overall, this is a massive opportunity for both sides that might not come around again for a while.

My Prediction: 1-2

Roma VS Bayer Leverkusen

Roma and Bayer Leverkusen collide in a rematch from last year’s Semi-Final. Roma are coming into this game off the back of a 2-2 draw at Napoli and they currently sit 5th in Serie A. When it comes to Bayer Leverkusen, they enter this game off the back of a 2-all draw with Stuttgart and they are currently top of the league. In their previous 4 meetings, Roma have won twice whilst there have also been 2 draws. When it comes to success in this competition, A.S. Roma have never won it (they lost in the Final last year) whilst Leverkusen won it in 1988 (when it was known as the UEFA Cup). Overall, this is massive for both sides, as Roma are looking to make their third-straight European Final whilst Bayer Leverkusen are trying to keep their unbeaten season going!

My Prediction: 2-2

UEFA Europa Conference League:

Aston Villa VS Olympiacos

Aston Villa take on Olympiacos in a massive Semi-Final tie. Aston Villa are coming into this game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Chelsea and they are currently 4th in the Premier League. When it comes to Olympiacos, they enter this game off the back of a 4-1 win over Lamia and they currently sit 4th in the Greek Super League. When it comes to success in Europe, Villa won the European Cup (now the Champions League) in 1982 whilst this is the furthest Olympiacos have ever gotten in a major European tournament. Overall, this is very much Aston Villa’s tie to lose, but Olympiacos will be well up for it!

My Prediction: 3-1

Fiorentina VS Club Brugge

Fiorentina host Club Brugge in an exciting fixture for both clubs. Fiorentina are coming into this game off the back of a 5-1 win over Sassuolo and they currently sit 8th in Serie A. When it comes to Club Brugge, they enter this game off the back of a 3-0 win in Genk and they are currently second in the Belgian Pro League. When it comes to success in Europe, Fiorentina won the Cup Winners’ Cup back in 1961 (they also lost in the Final of this competition last year) whilst Club Brugge lost in both the 1978 European Cup and 1976 UEFA Cup Finals. Overall, Fiorentina need to get the win here whilst Club Brugge will relish being back on this stage.

My Prediction: 2-1
