2023/24 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 33

Chelsea 6-0 Everton

A stunning Cole Palmer performance helped Chelsea to smash Everton at Stamford Bridge. Beto had a golden chance to give Everton the lead early on which he poorly smashed over the bar before Chelsea had the lead in the 13th minute courtesy of a lovely Cole Palmer goal! 5 minutes later and it was 2-0 as Palmer scored again before Cole Palmer completed his incredible hat-trick in the 29th minute after a horrendous pass by Jordan Pickford. Nicolas Jackson then made it 4-0 just before Halftime with another really nice goal before Chelsea were awarded a penalty after James Tarkowski whipped out Noni Madueke. After a weird incident before the penalty, Cole Palmer stepped up and scored yet again before Alfie Gilchrist made it 6-0 in the 90th! Overall, what a great night for Chelsea! The Blues remain 9th in the league and they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday followed by an away trip to Arsenal in a weeks time. As for Everton, there’s bad, and then there’s this! The Toffees stay 16th in the table and they host Nottingham Forest in a huge game next time out!

Manchester City 5-1 Luton

Manchester City pulled out a 5-star performance to smash Luton Town on their return to the top of the Premier League. Erling Haaland was denied early on by Thomas Kaminski before his poor second effort managed to find the back of the net thanks to a fortunate deflection off of Daiki Hashioka. Matheus Nunes then had a great chance which he only hit the post with before Ruben Dias came within inches of doubling Manchester City’s lead in the Second Half. In the 64th minute, Man City did have their second goal as Mateo Kovacic smashed the ball into the back of the net before Cauley Woodrow hit the bar for Luton! Man City were then awarded a penalty which Erling Haaland stepped up and finished coolly before a poor mistake by Nunes allowed Ross Barkley to grab one back for the hosts. Amazingly, Jeremy Doku managed to find the back of the net in the 87th minute before Josko Gvardiol scored a great goal himself to make it 5-1 to City. Overall, what a perfect weekend for Manchester City! City are now top of the league and they face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday and Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday before they go to Brighton for their next league fixture. As for Luton Town, this was always going to be a very tough game for them. The Hatters remain inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th place) and they host Brentford next time out.

Newcastle 4-0 Tottenham

Newcastle United pulled out a big performance to thrash Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park. After a really good bit of play by Anthony Gordon, Newcastle had the lead in the 30th minute through Alexander Isak. Just over a minute later and more errors at the back from Tottenham allowed Gordon to score to make it 2-0 to the hosts in the blink of an eye! 6 minutes into the Second Half and Newcastle had a third as Alexander Isak scored again after a great pass from Bruno Guimaraes. Not to take anything away from Isak though, as he showed great composure. Anthony Gordon then had a decent chance which he failed to take before Fabian Schar headed home moments later to make it Newcastle 4, Tottenham 0! Overall, this is a great win for Newcastle United. The Magpies rise to 6th in the table and they go to Crystal Palace next time out. As for Tottenham Hotspur, this was a bad result and performance from them. Spurs drop to 5th in the league and their next game is a big one at home to Arsenal (in just under two weeks time).

Nottingham Forest 2-2 Wolves

Giovanni Reyna came within a whisker of giving Nottingham Forest the lead early on before Murillo pulled out an amazing goal-line block to deny Joao Gomes before Pablo Sarabia poorly missed on the rebound. In the 40th minute, Wolves took the lead through a great solo goal by Matheus Cunha. Right before Halftime though, Nottingham Forest were level as Morgan Gibbs-White scored against his old club after some questionable goalkeeping by Jose Sa. In the 57th minute, Forest were in front as Danilo scored before Matheus Cunha scored again to equalise just 5 minutes later after Matz Sels decided it was his turn to make a silly goalkeeping error. Forest then had a couple of good chances to win it late on, but Jose Sa pulled out a good double save. In the end, a point is better than nothing for Nottingham Forest. Forest remain 17th in the table and their next game is a big one at Everton. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they’re just waiting for the season to end at this point! Wolves remain 11th in the league and they host Arsenal next time out.

Bournemouth 2-2 Manchester United

After just 16 minutes, Bournemouth took the lead as Dominic Solanke finished well after some questionable defending by Willy Kambwala. In the 31st minute, Manchester United were back level courtesy of Bruno Fernandes before Justin Kluivert scored just 5 minutes later to restore Bournemouth’s advantage! Milos Kerkez then hit the bar for the hosts before he poorly headed the rebound over the bar, and Andre Onana then pulled out a really good stop to deny Kluivert from scoring again! Bruno Fernandes then hit the bar for Man United before United were awarded a penalty in the Second Half for a handball against Adam Smith. This is a ridiculous decision! Bruno Fernandes then stepped up and scored to make it 2-2 after 65! And then, in additional time at the end of the game, Bournemouth were awarded a penalty only for VAR to change it to a free-kick outside the box. This is another baffling decision! In the end, AFC Bournemouth have every right to be aggrieved by the decisions in this game. The Cherries drop to 13th in the table and they go to Aston Villa next time out. As for Manchester United, they were very fortunate to get anything from this game. United drop to 7th in the league and they face Coventry in the FA Cup on Sunday before they host Manchester United in their next league fixture.

Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa picked up a superb victory to stun Arsenal at the Emirates! Gabriel Jesus had a great opportunity which he poorly headed into the side netting before Ollie Watkins hit the post for Aston Villa! Emiliano Martinez then pulled out a splendid save to deny Leandro Trossard before Bukayo Saka saw his effort sweep just wide of the target. In the Second Half, Youri Tielemans managed to hit both the crossbar and the post (in the same effort) without scoring before Leon Bailey tapped home from close range to give Aston Villa the lead in the 84th minute! And then, just a few minutes later, Ollie Watkins scored with a fabulous dink to secure a massive 3 points for Unai Emery’s Villa! In the end, this is a horrible result for Arsenal. The Gunners drop to second in the league and they have Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday followed by an away trip to Wolves. As for Aston Villa, this is a statement win for them! Villa are now 4th in the table and they go to Lille for a huge Europa Conference League Second Leg on Thursday followed by a home game against Bournemouth.

Brentford 2-0 Sheffield United

Brentford picked up a key 3 points as Sheffield United’s Survival hopes took another huge hit! Ben Brereton Diaz had a decent opportunity for Sheffield United which he made a mess of before Neal Maupay saw his effort go just wide after a poor defensive error by Sheffield U. In the 63rd minute, Brentford had the lead thanks to a fortunate Ollie Arblaster own goal. Mikel Damsgaard then thought he’d made it 2-0 to Brentford, but his goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up. However, in the 93rd minute, Frank Onyeka found the back of the net to secure the 3 points for the hosts! Overall, this was a much-needed win for Brentford! The Bees stay 15th in the table and they go to Luton next time out. As for Sheffield United, Relegation is looking pretty inevitable for them! The Blades remain bottom of the league and their next game is a massive one at home to Burnley.

West Ham 0-2 Fulham

Michail Antonio had a golden opportunity to give West Ham the lead which he poorly smashed over the bar before Andreas Pereira took advantage of a poor mistake by Konstantinos Mavropanos to give Fulham the lead after just 9 minutes. Pereira then had another good chance to score which he put wide before Lukasz Fabianski made a good save to deny Alex Iwobi in the Second Half. And then, in the 72nd minute, Fulham’s lead doubled as Andreas Pereira scored again! In the end, West Ham United were utterly useless here! The Hammers drop to 8th in the league and they host Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on Thursday followed by an away day at Crystal Palace. As for Fulham, this was more like it from them! The Cottagers are now 12th in the table and they host Liverpool next time out.

Burnley 1-1 Brighton

Jacob Bruun Larsen had an unbelievable chance for Burnley which he poorly put wide before David Datro Fofana had his own great opportunity which he made a mess of! Brighton then had a couple of half chances which they failed to score from before Burnley had the lead in the 74th minute through Josh Brownhill. What an absolute mess this was from a Brighton point of view! And then, in the 79th minute, Brighton were level thanks to a shocking and rather embarrassing own goal by Arijanet Muric! I’ve seen this on school playgrounds before, but for it to happen in the Premier League is just ludicrous! In the end, Burnley completely blew this game! The Clarets remain 19th in the table and their next game is a must-win at Sheffield United! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, what has happened to them?! The Seagulls stay 10th in the league and they host Manchester City next time out (in 9 days time).

Liverpool 0-1 Crystal Palace

An Eberechi Eze goal proved vital for Crystal Palace as Liverpool’s Title charge took a big hit! After just 5 minutes, Eberechi Eze was there to tap the ball home and give Crystal Palace the lead after what was a really nicely worked team goal! After a Virgil van Dijak slip, Andy Robertson pulled off a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta from making it 2-0 to Palace before Wataru Endo hit the crossbar for Liverpool. Dean Henderson then managed to pull out a great save to keep Luis Diaz’s effort out before Henderson made another save, this time to deny Darwin Nunez. Alisson then pulled out a big save of his own to keep Mateta off the scoresheet before Curtis Jones had a golden chance which he poorly put well wide of the target. In additional time at the end of the game, Mohamed Salah had a great chance to nick a point for the hosts, but his effort was blocked brilliantly by Tyrick Mitchell. In the end, this is a very disappointing loss for Liverpool. The Reds are now third in the league and they go to Atalanta on Thursday followed by Fulham on Sunday. As for Crystal Palace, this is a famous win for them! The Eagles remain 14th in the table and they host London Rivals West Ham next time out!
