Chelsea 3-2 Newcastle
After 6 minutes, Chelsea found themselves in front as Nicolas Jackson scored with a really clever flick. This goal is well worth a watch! In the 43rd minute, Newcastle were level thanks to a great finish from Alexander Isak. This goal is also worth a watch! In the 57th minute, Chelsea were back in front as it was now Cole Palmer’s turn to score a great goal! Raheem Sterling then made a bit of a mess of a great opportunity, but I will give some credit to Dan Burn for being there to clear the ball off the line. In the 76th minute, Chelsea got their all-important third goal courtesy of Mykhaylo Mudryk. Whilst Mudryk did really well here, Newcastle’s defence did not. Newcastle were able to get one back in the 90th minute though as Jacob Murphy scored with a cracking strike! Overall, this is a good win for Chelsea. The Blues remain 11th in the table and they take on Leicester in the FA Cup on Sunday before they host Burnley in a couple of weeks. As for Newcastle United, it’s back to losing ways for them. The Magpies drop to 10th in the league and they go to Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday before they take on West Ham two weeks later.
Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur pulled out a special performance to smash Aston Villa at Villa Park! Lucas Digne had a half chance in the First Half which he failed to take before Tottenham took the lead 5 minutes into the Second Half through James Maddison. The ball from Pape Sarr was superb. 3 minutes later and Tottenham’s lead doubled as Brennan Johnson finished well after a poor mistake by Ezri Konsa. In the 65th minute, Aston Villa were down to 10 men as John McGinn was shown a straight Red card for taking out Iyenoma Udogie. This was an angry tackle by McGinn so he really can’t have any complaints. In the 91st minute, Heung-Min Son smashed the ball home to make it 3-0 before Timo Werner finished superbly just a few minutes later to make it Aston Villa 0, Tottenham 4! In the end, what a horrible day for Aston Villa. Villa remain 4th in the league and they take on Ajax and West Ham in their next couple of games. As for Tottenham Hotspur, what a brilliant result for them. Spurs stay 5th in the table and they go to Fulham next time out.
West Ham 2-2 Burnley
A late West Ham United goal could prove crucial for both sides. After 11 minutes, it was Burnley who took the lead thanks to a superb strike from David Datro Fofana. In additional time at the end of the First Half, Burnley’s lead doubled as Konstantinos Mavropanos accidentally put the ball into the back of his own net. However, with less than a minute played in the Second Half, West Ham were back in it as Lucas Paqueta calmly slotted the ball away. Mohammed Kudus then had a golden opportunity which he somehow blasted well over the bar before Vladimir Coufal’s deflected cross came back off the crossbar. In the 85th minute, West Ham thought they’d levelled things up through Danny Ings, but it was ultimately ruled out for a very close offside. However, in the 91st minute, West Ham would have their equaliser as Danny Ings got the ball past James Trafford. Amazingly, Ings nearly won the game for the hosts, but his effort could only blast the crossbar. In the end, it’s definitely not the result that West Ham United were looking for. The Hammers stay 7th in the table and they host both Freiburg and Aston Villa this week. As for Burnley, they just couldn’t quite hold on. The Clarets stay 19th in the league and their next game is a big one at home to Brentford.
Bournemouth 2-2 Sheffield United
Early in the match, Bournemouth were awarded a penalty after Tom Davies stupidly whipped out Dominic Solanke. It was Solanke who stepped up from 12 yards only, but he somehow made an absolute mess of it! In the 27th minute, a poor bit of goalkeeping by Neto allowed Gustavo Hamer to lash the ball in from close range to give Sheffield United the lead. In the 64th minute, Jack Robinson made it 2-0 to Sheffield U after another terrible bit of goalkeeping by Neto. In the 67th minute, Dominic Solanke had a goal ruled out for a handball, and whilst I understand why this was given as a foul, it’s still stupid. In the 74th minute, Bournemouth did have a way back into it as Dango Ouattara scored from a free header before, in the 91st minute, Enes Unal scored to make it 2-2 after Sheffield United once again failed to defend a set piece properly. In the end, AFC Bournemouth will have mixed feelings about this result. The Cherries stay 13th in the table and they face Luton in their next league game on Wednesday. As for Sheffield United, they will also have mixed feelings about this result. The Blades remain bottom of the league and they host Fulham in their next game in just under three weeks time.
Arsenal 2-1 Brentford
A late-ish goal for Arsenal was enough for them to pick up a valuable 3 points. After just 19 minutes, Arsenal took the lead courtesy of a Declan Rice header. To be honest, this is an incredibly simple goal, but Rice’s header is still really good. In the 4th of additional time at the end of the First Half, Brentford were given a gift of an equaliser as Yoane Wissa scored after a shocking mistake by Aaron Ramsdale. This is just woeful! In the Second Half, Ramsdale made a decent save to deny Ivan Toney of what probably would’ve been the goal of the season before Gabriel came close to putting Arsenal back in front. Aaron Ramsdale then pulled out a good save to keep out Nathan Collins’ headed effort before Declan Rice smashed the crossbar. And then, in the 86th minute, Kai Havertz headed the ball in to make it 2-1 to restore Arsenal’s lead. Overall, this could prove to be a big win down the line for Arsenal. The Gunners are now top of the league and they face FC Porto in the Champions League tonight before they face Manchester City in their next league game on the 31st (of March). As for Brentford, they just weren’t quite able to hold on. The Bees stay 15th in the table and they go to Burnley next time out.
Wolves 2-1 Fulham
Jose Sa pulled out a good save to keep Andreas Pereira’s effort out before Harry Wilson had a great opportunity which he somehow put wide. Tosin Adarabioyo also had a good opportunity, but he could only hit the crossbar before Wolves took the lead 7 minutes into the Second Half through Rayan Ait Nouri. In the 67th minute, Wolves’ lead doubled thanks to a very fortunate deflection off of Tom Cairney. Jose Sa then managed to pull out a decent double save before Mario Lemina came super close to making it 3-0 to the hosts. Fulham were able to get one back in the 98th minute through Alex Iwobi, but it proved to be a little too late in the day. Overall, I don’t really know how, but Wolverhampton Wanderers have walked away with a pretty good victory. Wolves are now 9th in the league and they host Coventry in a big FA Cup clash on Saturday before they go to Aston Villa for their next league fixture. As for Fulham, they’ll be kicking themselves for losing this game. The Cottagers stay 12th in the table and they host Tottenham next time out.
Manchester United 2-0 Everton
After less than 10 minutes, Manchester United were awarded a penalty after James Tarkowski fouled Alejandro Garnacho. Bruno Fernandes then stepped up and scored to make it 1-0 to Man United after 12. I’ll give Fernandes a lot of praise here as this was a pretty great penalty! Jordan Pickford then pulled out a decent save to deny Fernandes a second set-piece goal before Man U were awarded another penalty after Ben Godfrey brought down Garnacho. This time, Marcus Rashford stepped up and scored to make it United 2, Everton 0 after 36 minutes had been played. This was another great penalty! Everton then had a couple of decent chances, but they ultimately took way too long to shoot before Dominic Calvert-Lewin failed to make any contact on the ball which would’ve surely found the back of the net had he (connected with the ball). Overall, Manchester United can be happy with this result. United stay 6th in the league and they take on Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday before they go to Brentford for their next league fixture (after the International Break). As for Everton, they had chances here to get something from this game. The Toffees remain 16th in the table and they go to Bournemouth next time out (after the International Break).
Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City
Nothing was quite able to set Liverpool and Manchester City apart in a fiercely contested game between two Title Rivals. After 23 minutes, it was Manchester City who struck first as John Stones scored after a brilliant ball in by Kevin De Bruyne. This was a terrifically worked goal! Luis Diaz then had a decent opportunity which he put wide before, at the start of the Second Half, Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Ederson took out Darwin Nunez. What Ederson and Nathan Ake were doing here I’ll never know! Anyway, it was Alexis Mac Allister who stepped up and scored to make it 1-1 after 50! Caoimhin Kelleher then did well to deny Phil Foden before Luis Diaz had another great opportunity which he poorly put wide. In the 89th minute, Jeremy Doku managed to hit the bar for Man City before Liverpool were screaming for a penalty after a coming together between Doku and Mac Allister. It ultimately wasn’t given, and I can honestly understand both arguments to this decision. In the end, Liverpool will feel like they should’ve won this game. The Reds drop to second in the league and they take on Sparta Prague and Manchester United this week before they host Brighton in their next league game. As for Manchester City, they should be happy with a point all things considered. City are now third in the table and they host Newcastle in the FA Cup this Saturday before they take on Arsenal in a critical league game after the International Break.
Crystal Palace 1-1 Luton
A late, late Luton Town goal could prove critical in their fight for survival. After a terrible error from Alfie Doughty, Crystal Palace found themselves in front after Jean-Philippe Mateta finished brilliantly. An awful back pass from Jordan Clark then allowed Mateta another opportunity, but he could only put it wide. What Luton were doing I have absolutely no idea! In the Second Half, Carlton Morris had a decent opportunity which he sent straight at Sam Johnstone before Thomas Kaminski pulled out a really good save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta a second. Odsonne Edouard then smashed the bar for Palace before, in the 96th minute, Cauley Woodrow got a flick on the ball which was enough to find the back of the net to grab a huge late leveller for Luton! In the end, what a poor result for Crystal Palace. Palace remain 14th in the league and their next game is at Nottingham Forest in a few weeks time. As for Luton Town, they should be really pleased with a point from this game. The Hatters stay inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th) and they go to Bournemouth tomorrow followed by a home against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Brighton 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Matz Sels made a good save to push Jakub Moder’s effort away before Andrew Omobamidele was very fortunate to not receive a second Yellow card. In actual fact, Nottingham Forest might’ve wanted Omobamidele to get sent off as he ultimately put Brighton in front 29 minutes in with an own goal! Divock Origi then had a really good opportunity which he struck straight at Bart Verbruggen before Jakub Moder received a Yellow card for a tough challenge on Neco Williams. This was certainly a close one in terms of whether it should've been a Red card or not. Overall, a win is all that matters for Brighton and Hove Albion. The Seagulls rise to 8th in the league and they take on Roma in the Europa League on Thursday before they go to Liverpool after the International Break. As for Nottingham Forest, they’re really struggling right now. Forest stay 17th in the table and they go to Luton next time out.
