2023/24 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 27

Sheffield United 0-6 Arsenal

Arsenal's high-scoring run continued as Sheffield United’s woes only expanded. Arsenal somehow failed to put the ball into the back of the net early on as Bukayo Saka hit the crossbar, but Arsenal did end up having the lead inside 5 minutes anyway through Martin Odegaard. In the 13th minute, Arsenal lead’s doubled as Jayden Bogle scored an own goal before Gabriel Martinelli made it 3-0 just 2 minutes later (thanks to a nice deflection). In the 25th minute, Kai Havertz finished well to make it 4-0 before Declan Rice added a 5th after just 39 minutes! And in the 58th minute, Ben White finished well to make it Sheffield United 0, Arsenal 6! In the end, Sheffield United are honestly becoming a bit pointless now! The Blades remain bottom of the league and they go to Bournemouth next time out. As for Arsenal, they are seemingly unstoppable right now! The Gunners stay third in the table and they face Brentford in their next game on Saturday Night Football.

Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa scored a late goal which could end up proving crucial for both them and Luton Town. Thomas Kaminski pulled out a decent save to keep Jacob Ramsey’s effort out before Kaminski pulled out another decent save, this time to deny Ollie Watkins. However, in the 24th minute, Aston Villa did have the lead as Ollie Watkins got his goal. Watkins then came close as his effort hit the side of the post before Villa had their second as this time, Ollie Watkins’ effort hit the post and went in! Thomas Kaminski then made his best save of the game so far to keep out Morgan Rogers before, in the 66th minute, Luton had one back through Tahith Chong. 6 minutes later and Luton were level as Carlton Morris finished well after a brilliant ball in by Alfie Doughty. And then, in the 89th minute, Lucas Digne got his head on the end of a superb Moussa Diaby cross to head the ball home and secure a crucial victory for Aston Villa. In the end, Luton Town once again showed fight and passion, but they once again came up just short. The Hatters stay 18th in the table and they go to Crystal Palace next time out! As for Aston Villa, they did well here to recover after seemingly blowing a 2-goal lead. Villa remain 4th in the league and they go to Ajax in the Europa Conference League on Thursday before they host Tottenham in an important league fixture.

Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United

Manchester City came from behind to pick up an important victory over Local Rivals Manchester United. After 8 minutes and a long kick up the field by Andre Onana, Manchester United had the lead thanks to a ridiculous Marcus Rashford strike! Credit to Rashford for scoring with such a fantastic strike, but I do have to say that Kyle Walker was absolutely appalling here. Phil Foden then had a good opportunity to score, but he was denied by Onana before Onana pulled out another good save, this time to keep Rodri’s effort out. Unbelievably, Erling Haaland then managed to miss from about two yards out and I honestly have no idea what he was doing! Anyway, 11 minutes into the Second Half and Manchester City were level as Phil Foden scored with a smashing strike! In the 80th minute, Man City finally had the lead as Foden scored yet another crucial goal! Foden did really well here, but I do have to wonder whether Andre Onana should’ve kept this one out. Anyway, in the 91st minute, a poor mistake by Sofyan Amrabat allowed Erling Haaland to score to ultimately secure the victory for Manchester City. Overall, Manchester City will be really pleased with how they played in this game. City stay second in the league and after they host FC Kobenhavn on Wednesday, they go to Liverpool on Sunday for a huge top-of-the-table clash. As for Manchester United, other than their goal, they really didn’t do much in this game. United stay 6th in the table and they host Everton next time out.

Tottenham 3-1 Crystal Palace

In the First Half, Timo Werner had a great chance to put Tottenham in front, but he couldn’t get past Crystal Palace Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone before, in the Second Half, Heung-Min Son smashed the post! In the 59th minute, it was Crystal Palace who took the lead courtesy of a brilliant free kick by Eberechi Eze! Sam Johnstone then made another decent save to deny Timo Werner, but in the 77th minute, Tottenham were level as Werner finally got his goal. What Crystal Palace were doing here I don’t know! 3 minutes later and Spurs had the lead as Cristian Romero headed home after a lovely ball in from James Maddison. In the 88th, after some more poor Palace defending, Heung-Min Son capitalised and finished well to secure the 3 points for Tottenham. Overall, it’s a win so Tottenham Hotspur can be happy. Spurs remain 5th in the league and their next game is a huge one at Aston Villa. As for Crystal Palace, they shot themselves in the foot here! Palace drop to 14th in the table and they host Luton in an important game next time out.

Everton 1-3 West Ham

Two stoppage times goals gave West Ham United a crucial victory over Everton. Beto had a good chance to give Everton the lead in the First Half, but he couldn’t beat Alphonse Areola before Everton were awarded a penalty in the 45th minute after the ball struck the arm of Kurt Zouma. Beto then stepped up only to see his effort pushed away by Areola (again). 11 minutes into the Second Half though and Everton had the lead as Beto finally found the back of the net with a nice-headed finish! Dwight McNeil then had a golden chance to make it 2-0, but he could only strike the ball straight at Alphonse Areola before Kurt Zouma scored a brilliant-headed finish to make it 1-1 after 62. And then, in the 91st minute, Tomas Soucek scored superbly to give West Ham the lead before Edson Alvarez made it 3-1 four minutes later to secure a superb comeback for the away team! In the end, Everton will be really disappointed with themselves for losing this game. The Toffees drop to 16th in the table and they go to Manchester United next time out. As for West Ham United, they needed this win! The Hammers rise to 7th in the league and they have to play Freiburg and Burnley this week.

Brentford 2-2 Chelsea

Yoane Wissa had a decent chance which he could only hit the side netting with before Mathias Jorgensen did well to clear Nicolas Jackson’s effort off the line. However, in the 35th minute, Chelsea would have the lead as Nicolas Jackson was able to find the back of the net with a nice-headed finish. 5 minutes into the Second Half though and Brentford were level through Mads Roerslev. Vitaly Janelt then hit the post for the hosts before Cole Palmer poorly missed the target after initially taking the ball away from his own teammate. In the 69th minute, Brentford had the lead as Yoane Wissa scored a great bicycle kick goal! Sergio Reguilon then hit the post for the hosts before Chelsea had their equaliser through Axel Disasi. In the end, I think Brentford will be disappointed by this result. The Bees move up to 15th in the table and they go to Arsenal next time out. As for Chelsea, they won’t be happy with this result either. The Blues remain 11th in the league and they face Newcastle in their next fixture.

Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

After just 14 minutes, Newcastle had the lead as Alexander Isak was there to head the ball home from close range after the ball deflected off of Craig Dawson. In the 33rd minute, Anthony Gordan was able to make it 2-0 to the hosts after a terrible mess by Jose Sa and Max Kilman! In the Second Half, Toti Gomes pulled out a great defensive block to deny Joe Willock from scoring before Martin Dubravka made a decent save to keep Pablo Sarabia’s effort out. And in the 92nd minute, Tino Livramento scored one of the weirdest goals I have ever seen to wrap up a great day for Newcastle. Overall, this was a great win for Newcastle United. The Magpies rise to 8th in the league and their next game is an important one at Chelsea. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they were terrible here! Wolves drop to 10th in the table and they host Fulham next time out.

Fulham 3-0 Brighton

21 minutes into the game and Fulham took the lead thanks to a great finish by Harry Wilson. Rodrigo Muniz also deserves a lot of praise as his run beforehand was superb. 11 minutes later and Fulham’s lead doubled as Rodrigo Muniz scored after Harry Wilson repaid the favour from earlier with a lovely cross! In the Second Half, Harry Wilson had a decent opportunity which he put wide before Wilson had another good chance which he again placed off target. Andreas Pereira then made a mess of a 1-on-1 opportunity before Evan Ferguson had a great opportunity which he somehow put wide! Facundo Buonanotte then hit the post for Brighton before Adama Traore took advantage of a poor Brighton error to wrap up the win for the hosts in the 91st minute. Overall, what a win this was for Fulham! The Cottagers stay 12th in the table and they go to Wolves next time out. As for Brighton and Hove Albion, this is a very poor result for them. The Seagulls drop to 9th in the league and they go to Roma on Thursday before they host Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth

After just 13 minutes, Bournemouth found themselves in front as Justin Kluivert scored a really nice goal. However, having said that, the defending by Dara O’Shea is honestly appalling. Jacob Bruun Larsen then had a decent opportunity which he hit straight at Adam Smith before Neto made a great save to keep out Bruun Larsen’s free-kick effort. In the Second Half, James Trafford was able to pull out a decent save to deny Dominic Solanke before Marcus Tavernier came very close to doubling Bournemouth’s tally (his effort hit the side netting). Joe Cullen did have the ball in the back of the net for Burnley, but it was ruled out for a foul on Adam Smith before Antoine Semenyo came within a whisker of making it 2-0. However, in the 88th minute, Semenyo got his goal thanks to a big Charlie Taylor deflection. In the end, I genuinely can’t see a way back for Burnley now! The Clarets remain inside the Relegation Zone (in 19th) and they go to West Ham next time out. As for AFC Bournemouth, they needed this result and they got it! The Cherries rise to 13th in the league and their next game is at home to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool

A 99th-minute goal (for Liverpool) could end up proving crucial when it comes to who lifts this year’s Premier League Title! Divock Origi wasn’t too far away from scoring against his former club before Anthony Elanga had a great chance to give Nottingham Forest the lead, but he was tamely denied by Caoimhin Kelleher. Luis Diaz then had a good opportunity which was blocked well by Murillo before another good Forest block denied Andy Robertson from giving Liverpool the lead. Anthony Elanga was then just inches away from putting Nottingham Forest in front before Matz Sels made a great save to deny Darwin Nunez. However, in the 99th minute, Darwin Nunez did find the back of the net to nick a huge 3 points for Liverpool at the death! In the end, Nottingham Forest should be furious with themselves for not clearing the ball at the end. Forest stay 17th in the table and they go to Brighton next time out. As for Liverpool, they got away with one here, but that’s all they can do! The Reds remain top of the league and after an away trip to Sparta Prague on Thursday, they host Manchester City in a crucial Super Sunday Clash!
