Newcastle 2-3 Manchester City
Manchester City came from behind to pick up a huge victory at Newcastle United. Newcastle put the ball into the back of the net pretty early on, but it was pretty clear it was offside. However, the assistant referee decided against raising his flag which ultimately resulted in Ederson picking up an injury and having to leave the field. This is getting quite ridiculous now, especially from a Manchester City point of view. In the 26th minute, Manchester City had the lead as Bernardo Silva scored with a fantastic little backheel flick. 9 minutes later though and Newcastle were level through a great finish by Alexander Isak. Just two minutes later and Newcastle had the lead as Anthony Gordon scored a super goal to send the home crowd into a frenzy! However, in the 74th minute, Man City were level through none other than Kevin De Bruyne! This is another goal that is well worth watching! And then, in the 91st minute, after a brilliant ball from De Bruyne, Oscar Bobb showed real composure to tap the ball into the back of the net to secure a huge 3 points for the Champions! In the end, Newcastle United have now lost four successive league games! The Magpies drop to 10th in the table and they go to Fulham in the FA Cup next time out before they play away to Aston Villa in their next league game. As for Manchester City, this is a brilliant result for them. City are now second in the league and they face Tottenham in the FA Cup in their next game before they host Burnley in the league on the 31st.
Manchester United 2-2 Tottenham
Nothing was quite able to separate Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in an Old Trafford Super Sunday clash! Manchester United got off to a pretty amazing start as Rasmus Hojlund sent them in front after just 3 minutes with a thunderous strike! 19 minutes in though and Tottenham were level through a Richarlison header after a nice corner delivery from Pedro Porro. Iyenoma Udogie then came close to scoring an own goal as headed the ball back onto his own post before Man United retook the lead in the 40th minute through Marcus Rashford. Cristian Romero then smashed the crossbar for Tottenham (with a headed effort) before, at the start of the Second Half, Tottenham were back level through Rodrigo Bentancur. I thought Bentancur did really well here. Scott McTominay then had a great chance to win the game for United, but he could only head the ball over the crossbar. In the end, it’s a decent point, but nothing more for Manchester United. United move up to 7th in the table and they face one of Newport County or Eastleigh in the next round of the FA Cup before they go to Wolves in their next league game. As for Tottenham Hotspur, they’ll have mixed feelings regarding this result. Spurs remain 5th in the league and they host Manchester City in the FA Cup a week on Friday before they play Brentford in their next league match.
Burnley 1-1 Luton
A late goal was enough for Luton Town to snatch an important point at the expense of Relegation Rivals Burnley. Johann Berg Gudmundsson had a good chance which he blasted straight at Thomas Kaminski before Burnley did take the lead in the 36th minute through Zeki Amdouni. In the Second Half, Kaminski made a good save to keep the game at 1-0 before, in the 92nd minute, controversy struck as Carlton Morris scored to give Luton a crucial point. However, in my opinion, this goal shouldn’t have counted as James Trafford was clearly fouled by Elijah Adebayo. The craziest thing about this is I’ve seen fouls given this year for players tapping Goalkeepers on the shoulder, so how this wasn’t given I’ll never know. In the end, Burnley have a right to feel very hard done by yet again! The Clarets stay 19th in the table and they go to Manchester City next time out. As for Luton Town, this is an important point for them. The Hatters remain just inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th place) and they play away to Bolton and at home to Brighton in their next couple of games.
Chelsea 1-0 Fulham
Armando Broja had a decent chance which he headed wide before Djordje Petrovic pulled out a good save to deny Harry Wilson. In additional time at the end of the First Half, Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Issa Diop brought down Raheem Sterling. I’m honestly not sure how much contact there was, but anyway, Cole Palmer stepped up and scored to send Chelsea into the break ahead. In the Second Half, Petrovic got down low to push out Raul Jimenez’s effort before Connor Gallagher smashed the post. Overall, Chelsea can be happy with the 3 points from this one. The Blues are now 9th in the league and they face Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, and Liverpool in their next three games. As for Fulham, they’ll be disappointed with themselves that they weren’t able to create more clear-cut chances. The Cottagers stay 13th in the table and their next three games are at home against Liverpool, Newcastle, and Everton.
Everton 0-0 Aston Villa
Alex Moreno thought he’d fired Aston Villa in front with a really nice strike in the 18th minute, but unfortunately for him, his goal was ruled out due to an offside against Leon Bailey. Jordan Pickford then pulled out a good save to deny Bailey from scoring before Emiliano Martinez denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin (he really should’ve scored). In the Second Half, Jhon Duran had a good opportunity to score for Aston Villa, but his effort went just wide of the post. In the end, Everton should be happy with a point from this one. The Toffees remain in 17th place and they face Crystal Palace and Fulham in their next couple of fixtures. As for Aston Villa, it’s more dropped points away from home for them. Villa drop to third in the league and they play Chelsea in the FA Cup next time out before they host Newcastle in the league on the 30th.
