2023/24 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 21

Arsenal 5-0 Crystal Palace

Arsenal got back to winning ways by thumping London Rivals Crystal Palace at the Emirates! Arsenal found themselves ahead after just 11 minutes through a Gabriel header before they then hit the crossbar from another corner just a couple of minutes later. 37 minutes in and Arsenal’s lead doubled as Dean Henderson scored an own goal after Crystal Palace once again proved that they can’t defend set pieces. 14 minutes into the Second Half and the hosts had their third, this time through a nice counter attack which was finished off well by Leandro Trossard. And then, in the 94th minute, Gabriel Martinelli made it 4-0 before Martinelli scored a minute later to make it Arsenal 5, Crystal Palace 0! Overall, this is more like from Arsenal. The Gunners climb to third in the league and they go to Nottingham Forest next time out. As for Crystal Palace, they’re really struggling at the minute. The Eagles drop to 15th in the table and their next game is a big one at home to Sheffield United.

Brentford 3-2 Nottingham Forest

Ivan Toney returned as Brentford picked up a vital victory over Nottingham Forest. After just 3 minutes, it was Nottingham Forest who found themselves in front as Danilo scored with a wonderful volley. However, Brentford were level in the 19th minute through an Ivan Toney free kick! This is a really good finish from Toney. Keane Lewis-Potter then came close as he smashed the bar for Brentford from close range before, in the Second Half, Brentford had the lead through a Ben Mee header. However, the hosts’ lead didn’t last long as Chris Wood headed home from close range to make it 2-2 after 65 minutes. Just three minutes later and Brentford were back in front though as Neal Maupay scored with a lovely finish! Overall, this is a big win for Brentford. The Bees rise to 14th in the league and they go to Tottenham next time out. As for Nottingham Forest, they’ll be frustrated to have lost this game. Forest stay 16th in the table and they face Bristol City away in the FA Cup on Friday before they host Arsenal in their next league fixture.

Bournemouth 0-4 Liverpool

Liverpool pulled out a terrific Second Half performance to stuff AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality! After not much happened in the First Half, Liverpool found themselves ahead after just 4 minutes in the Second thanks to a nice finish from Darwin Nunez. Diogo Jota then made it 2-0 in the 70th minute before Jota got another one in the 79th minute. Both of Jota’s finishes were really good. Liverpool weren’t done there though as Darwin Nunez capped off a brilliant afternoon/evening with his second goal of the game to make it Bournemouth 0, Liverpool 4! In the end, this wasn’t very good at all from an AFC Bournemouth point of view. The Cherries stay 12th in the table and they face Swansea and West Ham in their next couple of games. As for Liverpool, this was a great win for them. The Reds remain at the top of the league and they face Fulham, Norwich, and Chelsea in their next three matches.

Sheffield United 2-2 West Ham

West Ham found themselves in front after 28 minutes as Maxwel Cornet finished well after the ball deflected into his path. However, Sheffield United wouldn’t go into the break behind as Ben Brereton Diaz scored on his debut to make it 1-1 going into Halftime. In the Second Half, West Ham were awarded a penalty after Gustavo Hamer brought down Danny Ings. James Ward-Prowse then stepped up and scored to give West Ham the lead back in the 79th minute. Things then got worse for Sheffield United as Rhian Brewster was sent off at the start of additional time for a pretty horrible challenge, but it was sort of cancelled out by the fact that Vladimir Coufal was sent off for two quick Yellow cards just minutes later. Straight after this, Sheffield U were awarded a penalty after Alphonse Areola and Ollie McBurnie came together. This then meant that McBurnie stepped up and scored to seal a dramatic point for Sheffield United in the 103rd minute! However, the game was over then as West Ham went up the other end before Anel Ahmedhodzic pulled down Jarrod Bowen. However, the referee gave a free kick against Bowen and I find that to be absolutely ridiculous! In the end, this is a good point for Sheffield United. The Blades remain bottom of the league and they play Brighton and Crystal Palace in their next couple of games. As for West Ham United, they’re once again going to feel hard done by. The Hammers stay 6th in the table and they host Bournemouth next time out.

Brighton 0-0 Wolves

Facundo Buonanotte had a great chance for Brighton which he somehow failed to take (from just a couple of yards out) before Matheus Cunha missed an absolute sitter at the start of the Second Half! Max Kilman then kicked the ball onto his own post before Pedro Neto missed a couple of half chances. In the end, it’s a point and nothing more for Brighton and Hove Albion. The Seagulls climb to 7th in the league and they face Sheffield United and Luton in their next couple of matches. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they’ll be happy with a point from this game. Wolves remain in 11th place and they go to West-Midlands rivals West Brom next weekend before they host Manchester United on the 1st of Feb.
