2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 9

Liverpool VS Everton

The Premier League returns from another International Break in some style as Liverpool host Everton in the Merseyside Derby! Liverpool drew 2-2 at Brighton before the break and they are currently 4th in the league. Everton picked up a really good win over Bournemouth last time out and they currently sit 16th in the table. In their previous 29 meetings, Liverpool have won 14 times whilst Everton have only won twice. For Liverpool, they’ll expect to win this game. The Reds are ranked 4th in GPG (2.3) and they are currently on a 13-game unbeaten run at Anfield (11W:2D). As for Everton, a win here would be absolutely huge for them. The Toffees are ranked 11th in GPG (1.1) and they are currently on a 4-game unbeaten run away from home in all competitions (3W:1D).

My Prediction: 3-1

Bournemouth VS Wolves

Bournemouth welcome Wolves to the Vitality Stadium as Gary O’Neil returns to his former club. Bournemouth were thrashed 3-0 at Everton in their last game and they are currently sitting inside the Relegation Zone (in 19th). Wolves picked up a decent point at home to rivals Aston Villa last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. In their previous 8 meetings, both sides have won 3 times each. It’s also worth mentioning that only one of those 8 games has ended with a team winning by more than one goal (2-0 Wolves in 2018). For AFC Bournemouth, they have to win this game. The Cherries are ranked 20th in GPG (0.6) and they are still yet to get a win on the board in the Premier League. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they should fancy themselves in this one. Wolves are ranked 11th in GPG (1.1) and Hwang Hee-Chan currently has the best “Shots to Goals Conversion Rate” in the entire league (for players that have scored at least 5 goals).

My Prediction: 0-1

Brentford VS Burnley

Brentford lost 2-1 at Manchester United last time out and they are currently only 15th in the league. Burnley were thrashed 4-1 by Chelsea in their last game and they still sit inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th). In their previous 4 meetings, Brentford have won once whilst Burnley have won three times. For Brentford, they need to start winning Football matches. The Bees are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they are still yet to win at home this season (in all competitions). As for Burnley, it’s important for them that they start picking up some points. The Clarets are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and they currently have the 14th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-0

Manchester City VS Brighton

Manchester City welcome Brighton to the Etihad Stadium for what should be a really entertaining match. Manchester City lost 1-0 at Arsenal before the International Break and they are currently third in the league (as a result). Brighton drew two each with Liverpool last time out and they currently occupy 6th spot. In their previous 13 meetings, Man City have won 11 times whilst Brighton have only won once. Fun fact, Brighton have never beaten City away from home. For Manchester City, they need to bounce back with a victory here. City are ranked 6th in GPG (2.1) and they've won every single game they’ve played at the Etihad in 2023 (21 wins out of 21)! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, this is a big game for them. The Seagulls are ranked 1st in GPG (2.6), but they haven’t won any of their last 4 games in all competitions (2D:2L).

My Prediction: 4-3

Newcastle VS Crystal Palace

Newcastle drew 2-2 at West Ham in their last game and they are currently 8th in the league. Crystal Palace drew 0-0 at home to Nottingham Forest last time out and they currently sit 9th in the table. In their previous 20 meetings, Newcastle have won 8 times whilst Palace have won 4 times. All three meetings between the two sides last year finished nil-nil (Newcastle won the Carabao Cup game on penalties). For Newcastle United, they should be more than capable of winning this game. The Magpies are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.5) and they are currently on a 7-game unbeaten run in all competitions (5W:2D). As for Crystal Palace, this game will really tell us just how good Crystal Palace truly are. The Eagles are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and no team’s kept more Clean Sheets than them in the league this season (4).

My Prediction: 2-0

Nottingham Forest VS Luton

Nottingham Forest picked up a point away from home against Crystal Palace in their last game and they currently sit 13th in the table. Luton lost 1-0 at home to Tottenham last time out and they currently sit just outside the Relegation Zone in 17th spot. In their previous 6 meetings, both teams have won twice. Notts Forest have failed to score against Luton in each of their last 3 games against them. For Nottingham Forest, they should really be winning this game. Forest are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 11th-best home record in the league. As for Luton Town, a point from this game would be a good result for them. The Hatters are ranked 18th in GPG (0.8) and they are still yet to keep a Clean Sheet in the 2023/24 Season.

My Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea VS Arsenal

Chelsea host Arsenal in a big London Derby! Chelsea stuffed Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor in their last game and they are currently 11th in the table. Arsenal picked up a huge 1-0 win over Manchester City before the International Break and they are currently second in the league. In their previous 34 meetings, both sides have amazingly won 13 times each. For Chelsea, they need to be winning this game if they want people to take them seriously. The Blues are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they are currently on a 3-game winning streak (in all competitions). As for Arsenal, they also need to win this game if they want people to view them as serious title contenders. The Gunners are ranked 7th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the second-best away record in the league (3 wins from 3).

My Prediction: 2-2

Sheffield United VS Manchester United

Sheffield United lost 3-1 away to Fulham in their last game and they are currently bottom of the Premier League (after a horrible start). Manchester United came from behind to pull out a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford before the International Break and they currently sit 10th in the table. In their previous 5 meetings, Sheffield U have won once whilst Man U have won 3 times. For Sheffield United, what a win this would be for them. The Blades are ranked 18th in GPG (0.8) and they are still yet to win a game this season (in any competition). As for Manchester United, they have to be winning this game in a comfortable manner. United are ranked 11th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the 4th worst away record in the league (1W:2L).

My Prediction: 0-3

Aston Villa VS West Ham

Aston Villa host West Ham in what should be quite an exciting Super Sunday clash. Aston Villa drew 1-1 at rivals Wolves in their last game and they are currently 5th in the league. West Ham drew two each with Newcastle last time out and they currently sit 7th in the table. In their previous 18 meetings, Villa have won 4 times whilst West Ham have won double that. For Aston Villa, they’ll be disappointed with anything other than a win from this game. Villa are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.4) and they also currently have the third-best home record in the league (3 wins out of 3). As for West Ham United, a win here and things are looking really good for them. The Hammers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.9) and they are currently on a 4-game unbeaten run in all competitions (3W:1D).

My Prediction: 2-2

Tottenham VS Fulham

After a couple of NFL Games, English Football returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Tottenham host London Rivals Fulham on Monday Night Football. Tottenham won 1-0 at Luton before the International Break and they are currently top of the Premier League after a terrific start to the season. Fulham managed to beat Sheffield United 3-1 last time out and they currently sit 12th in the table. In their previous 17 meetings, Tottenham have won 13 times whilst Fulham have only won twice. It’s worth mentioning that Fulham knocked Spurs out of the Carabao Cup on penalties back in August. For Tottenham Hotspur, they’ll definitely be aiming to remain at the top of the table by the end of Gameweek 9. Spurs are ranked 4th in GPG (2.3) and they currently have the 7th best home record in the league (3 wins from 3). As for Fulham, they’re going to have to play at their best if they’re going to get anything from this game. Fulham are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 10th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 4-0
