2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 7

Aston Villa VS Brighton

Aston Villa host Brighton in what should be a really good game Live on TNT Sports! Aston Villa won at Chelsea last weekend, but they then lost at home to Everton in the Cup on Wednesday and they currently sit 6th in the table. Brighton beat Bournemouth 3-1 in their last league game, but they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup, this time at the hands of Chelsea. Brighton are still third in the league though. In their previous 11 meetings, Aston Villa have won 6 times whilst Brighton have only won once. That win for Brighton came back in November 2020. For Aston Villa, they need to try and find some consistency because they don’t have any at all right now. Villa are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the 5th best home record in the league (2 wins out of 2). As for Brighton and Hove Albion, this game is a big test for them. The Seagulls are ranked 1st in GPG (3.0) and they currently have the 5th best away record in the league (two wins out of two).

My Prediction: 2-2

Bournemouth VS Arsenal

Bournemouth lost 3-1 at Brighton last weekend before they beat Stoke 2-0 in the Cup and they currently sit just outside the Relegation Zone in 17th. Arsenal drew 2-all with North London Rivals Tottenham in their last league match before they won 1-0 at Brentford in the Carabao Cup. Arsenal are currently 5th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, Bournemouth have only won once whilst Arsenal have won 10 times. That win for Bournemouth came back in early 2018. For AFC Bournemouth, at some point, they seriously need to get their first league win of the season on the board. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (0.8) and they’ve managed to keep a Clean Sheet in each of their last two home games (in all competitions). As for Arsenal, they should be winning this game. The Gunners are ranked 7th in GPG (1.8) and they currently have the 6th best away record in the league (2 wins out of 2).

My Prediction: 1-2

Everton VS Luton

Everton host Luton in a big game for both clubs. Everton beat both Brentford (League) and Aston Villa (Cup) away from home this week and they currently sit 15th in the table. Luton picked up their first-ever Premier League point last weekend with a 1-1 draw against Wolves, but they were then disappointingly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League 1 Exeter. Luton are currently inside the Relegation Zone (18th). The last game between these two sides came back in 2007 in the League Cup (Everton won 1-0). For Everton, this is a good chance for them to cap off what has been a really good week for them. The Toffees are ranked 14th in GPG (0.8) and they’ve lost all 3 of their home games so far this season 1-0. As for Luton Town, they need to get a win on the board before the next International Break. The Hatters are ranked 20th in GPG (0.6) and they currently have the worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-0

Manchester United VS Crystal Palace

Manchester United beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor last weekend before they won 3-0 at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. Man United are currently 9th in the table. Crystal Palace drew nil-nil with Fulham before they lost 3-0 at Old Trafford, and they currently find themselves in 10th spot. In their previous 24 meetings, Man United have won 16 times compared to 4 wins for Crystal Palace. For Manchester United, they’ll look to make it two wins from two at home to Crystal Palace. United are ranked 10th in GPG (1.2) and they currently have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for Crystal Palace, they certainly need to play better than they did on Tuesday. The Eagles are ranked 12th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 10th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-1

Newcastle VS Burnley

Newcastle smashed 8 past Sheffield United last week before they knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup Wednesday Night. Newcastle are currently 8th in the table. Burnley lost 1-0 at home to Manchester United in their last league game before they won 4-0 at Salford on Tuesday, and they currently sit inside the Relegation Zone in 19th. In their previous 13 meetings, Newcastle have won 6 times whilst Burnley have only won twice. For Newcastle United, they’ll be looking to keep another Clean Sheet and pick up the 3 points in the process. The Magpies are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.7) and they’ve kept 4 Clean Sheets in a row in all competitions. As for Burnley, they need to try and get a win on the board (in the league) soon. The Clarets are ranked 19th in both GPG (0.8) and GCPG (2.6).

My Prediction: 4-0

West Ham VS Sheffield United

West Ham lost 3-1 at Liverpool last week before they beat Lincoln 1-0 in the Carabao Cup and they are currently 7th in the table. Sheffield United lost a whopping 8-0 against Newcastle in their last game and they are currently bottom of the league. In their previous 5 meetings, West Ham have won twice whilst Sheffield United have won once. For West Ham United, they’ll be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League with a good victory here. The Hammers are ranked 7th in GPG (1.8) and four of their last 5 games in the league have ended 3-1 (2W,2L). As for Sheffield United, it’s safe to say that things can’t get any worse than last week! The Blades are ranked 14th in GPG (0.8) and they are still yet to win a game this season (in any competition).

My Prediction: 3-1

Wolves VS Manchester City

Wolves drew 1-1 at Luton last week before they lost 3-2 at Ipswich and they currently sit 16th in the table. Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in their last league game before they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle on Wednesday. Man City are still top of the league with a 100% record though. In their previous 16 meetings, Wolves have won 3 times whilst Man City have won 11 times. City have won each of the last six games by a total aggregate score of 19-3. For Wolverhampton Wanderers, there’s no doubt that this is going to be a tough ask for them. Wolves are ranked 12th in GPG (1.0) and 17th in GCPG (2.0). As for Manchester City, they’ll look to bounce back from a disappointing night in Newcastle by keeping up their perfect start in the league. City are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.7) and they currently have the best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Tottenham VS Liverpool

Tottenham host Liverpool in what should be a really exciting and entertaining contest. Tottenham drew 2-2 with Rivals Arsenal in their last game and they currently sit 4th in the table. Liverpool won 3-1 at home to both West Ham and Leicester this week and they currently find themselves in second. In their previous 29 meetings, Spurs have won 5 times compared to 16 wins for Liverpool. For Tottenham Hotspur, this is another big test for Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are ranked 4th in GPG (2.5) and they currently have the 7th best home record in the league (two wins from two). As for Liverpool, I’m really intrigued to see how they get on in this one. The Reds are also ranked 4th in GPG (2.5) and they’re unbeaten in their last 12 games against Tottenham (9W,3D).

My Prediction: 2-2

Nottingham Forest VS Brentford

Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 at Manchester City last weekend and they currently sit 12th in the table. Brentford were beaten at home by both Everton and Arsenal this week and they currently occupy 13th spot. In their previous 16 meetings, Notts Forest have won 4 times compared to 9 wins for Brentford. For Nottingham Forest, they should believe that they can win this game. Forest are ranked 10th in both GPG (1.2) and the home league table. As for Brentford, they really need to snap out of their poor run of form. The Bees are ranked 9th in GPG (1.5) and they’re on a 3-game losing streak.

My Prediction: 2-1

Fulham VS Chelsea

London Rivals meet on Monday Night Football as Fulham host Chelsea at Craven Cottage. Fulham drew 0-0 at Crystal Palace last week before they beat Fulham in the Cup and they currently sit 11th in the table. Chelsea lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa in their last league game before they knocked Brighton out of the Carabao Cup. Chelsea are currently in 14th position. In their previous 15 meetings, Fulham have only won once whilst Chelsea have won 9 times. That win for Fulham came earlier in the year (January). For Fulham, it’s very unclear as to which team is going to show up in this game. The Cottagers are ranked 14th in GPG (0.8) and nobody’s conceded more penalties than them in the league this season (3). As for Chelsea, they need to win a Premier League game as soon as possible. The Blues are also ranked 14th in GPG (0.8), but they are ranked 3rd in GCPG (1.0) which surprised me.

My Prediction: 0-2
