2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 6

Crystal Palace VS Fulham

Crystal Palace conceded three late goals in a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa last week and they currently find themselves in 9th place. Fulham just about managed to beat Luton 1-0 last time out and they currently sit 10th in the table. In their previous 8 meetings, Palace have won three times whilst Fulham have won twice. For Crystal Palace, they’ll be looking to get straight back to winning ways here. The Eagles are ranked 11th in GPG (1.2) and they haven’t kept a Clean Sheet since the opening game of the season. As for Fulham, they’ll need to play better this week if they’re going to get a result from this game. The Cottagers are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and nobody’s conceded more penalties than them in the league this season (3).

My Prediction: 2-1

Luton VS Wolves

Luton host Wolves at Kenilworth Road in a game that both teams need to pick up the victory. Luton were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at Fulham last weekend and they are currently bottom of the league as the only team yet to get a point on the board. Wolves suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Liverpool last time out and they currently sit 16th in the table. The most recent (competitive) meeting between these two sides saw Luton knock Wolves out of the FA Cup back in 2013 (1-0). For Luton Town, they need to find a result from somewhere to get their confidence up. The Hatters are ranked 19th in GPG (0.5) and 20th in “Shots on Target per Game” (1.8). As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they really should be winning this game. Wolves are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 11th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Manchester City VS Nottingham Forest

Manchester City beat both West Ham and Crvena Zvezda 3-1 this week and they currently lead the way in the Premier League as the only team left with a 100% record. Nottingham Forest were a bit fortunate to draw 1-1 with Burnley last Monday and they currently sit 8th in the table. In their 2 meetings last season, Man City won 6-0 at the Etihad whilst they drew 1-1 at the City Ground. Notts Forest’s last victory against City came back in 2009 (3-0 FA Cup Win). For Manchester City, they’ll expect to keep their 100% record going. City are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.8) and Erling Haaland is currently the league’s Top Goalscorer (with 7). As for Nottingham Forest, they’ll be hoping to pull out another good away performance like they already have this season. Forest are ranked 10th in GPG (1.4) and 7th in GCPG (1.4).

My Prediction: 4-2

Brentford VS Everton

Brentford suffered their first loss of the season last weekend against Newcastle and they currently sit 11th in the table. Everton lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last time out and they currently find themselves inside the Relegation Zone (18th). In their previous 6 encounters, both sides have won twice. For Brentford, they need to try and get back to winning ways. The Bees are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they’ve drawn all 3 of their home games this season. As for Everton, they really need to try and get some points on the board. The Toffees are ranked 20th in GPG (0.4) and they are yet to keep a Clean Sheet so far this season.

My Prediction: 3-1

Burnley VS Manchester United

Burnley host Manchester United in a game where both sides are desperately looking for a victory. Burnley were unfortunate to not pick up the victory in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Monday and they currently sit 19th in the table. Manchester United lost 3-1 at home to Brighton last weekend before they lost 4-3 against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday. United are currently only 13th in the league! In their previous 15 meetings, Burnley have only won once whilst Man United have won 9 times. That win for Burnley came at Old Trafford in 2020 (0-2). For Burnley, this is arguably their best opportunity so far to pick up their first win of the season. The Clarets are ranked 17th in GPG (1.0) and 19th in “Shots on Target per Game” (2.5). As for Manchester United, they have to be winning this game. United are ranked 11th in GPG (1.2) and they’ve lost every game they’ve played away from home so far this season.

My Prediction: 2-2

Arsenal VS Tottenham

Arsenal host Tottenham in one of the most exciting North London Derby’s for a while. Arsenal beat Everton 1-0 and PSV 4-0 this week and they currently sit 4th in the table. Tottenham dramatically came from behind to beat Sheffield United last weekend and they currently find themselves second in the league. In their previous 30 meetings, Arsenal have won 13 times compared to 10 wins for Tottenham. For Arsenal, this game feels more important to them than it just being another North London Derby. The Gunners are ranked 7th in GPG (1.8) and they currently have the best home record in the league. As for Tottenham Hotspur, this is Ange Postecoglou's first proper test as Tottenham Manager. Spurs are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.6) and they currently have the second-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-2

Brighton VS Bournemouth

Brighton pulled out a great 3-1 victory at Manchester United last weekend, but they then suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to AEK Athens in their first-ever European game last night. Brighton are currently 5th in the league. Bournemouth drew nil-nil at home to Chelsea last time out and they currently occupy 15th spot. In their previous 16 meetings, Brighton have won 25% of the time whilst Bournemouth have won 50% of the time. For Brighton and Hove Albion, they’ll be looking to bounce straight back after a disappointing defeat last night. The Seagulls are ranked 1st in GPG (3.0), but they haven’t kept a Clean Sheet in any of their last 11 games. As for AFC Bournemouth, they’re still looking for their first league victory of the season. The Cherries are ranked 18th in GPG (0.8) and 12th in GCPG (1.6).

My Prediction: 4-1

Chelsea VS Aston Villa

Chelsea host Aston Villa in an intriguing matchup. Chelsea drew 0-0 at Bournemouth last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 3-1 last weekend, but they then suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss at Legia Warsaw last night. Villa are currently 7th in the league. In their previous 22 meetings, Chelsea have won 14 times compared to 4 wins for Aston Villa. For Chelsea, they need to start picking up some momentum. The Blues are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 9th-best home record in the league. As for Aston Villa, they should fancy their chances in this game. Villa are ranked 5th in GPG (2.2) and Moussa Diaby is ranked 3rd in “Big Chances Created” (with 4).

My Prediction: 0-2

Liverpool VS West Ham

Liverpool beat both Wolves and LASK 3-1 away from home this week and they currently find themselves third in the league. West Ham lost 3-1 at home to Manchester City last weekend before they beat TSC Backa Topola 3-1 last night and they currently sit 6th in the table. In their previous 26 meetings, Liverpool have won 16 times whilst West Ham have won 6 times. For Liverpool, they should keep their good start to the season going here. The Reds are ranked 4th in GPG (2.4) and nobody’s created more “Big Chances” so far in the league this season than Mohamed Salah (6). As for West Ham United, don’t write them out of this game just yet. The Hammers are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the 4th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-1

Sheffield United VS Newcastle

The final game of Gameweek 6 sees Sheffield United welcome Newcastle to Bramall Lane Live on Super Sunday. Sheffield United suffered a heart-breaking defeat at Tottenham last weekend and they currently sit just outside the Relegation Zone in 17th. Newcastle won 1-0 at home to Brentford in their last league game before they started their Champions League campaign off with a nil-nil draw at A.C. Milan. Newcastle are currently 12th in the table. In their previous 4 meetings, Sheffield U have won once whilst Newcastle have won three times. Only one team has scored in each of those 4 games. For Sheffield United, it’s important for them that they pick up their first victory of the season sooner rather than later. The Blades are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they haven’t won at home since April. As for Newcastle United, they should really be winning this game. The Magpies are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and 7th in GCPG (1.4).

My Prediction: 0-2
