2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 5

Wolves VS Liverpool

Wolves lost 3-2 away to Crystal Palace before the International Break and they currently sit 15th in the table. Liverpool comfortably beat Aston Villa 3-0 last time out and they are currently third in the league. In their previous 18 meetings, Wolves have won 4 times compared to 13 wins for Liverpool. These two teams have already played each other 4 times in 2023! For Wolverhampton Wanderers, they need to try and take advantage of being the Home team. Wolves are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and nobody’s created more “big chances” in the league so far this season than Pedro Neto (4). As for Liverpool, they should be winning this game. The Reds are ranked 4th in GPG (2.3) and they’re on a 3-game winning streak.

My Prediction: 1-2

Aston Villa VS Crystal Palace

Aston Villa were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in their last game and they come into this one 10th in the table. Crystal Palace picked up a good 3-2 win at home to Wolves last time out and they are currently 7th in the league. In their previous 14 meetings, both sides have won 6 times which is interesting. For Aston Villa, they need to try and find some consistency (for more than 4 games). Villa are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they are currently on a 9-game winning streak at Home. As for Crystal Palace, they’ll be looking to continue their good start to the new season. The Eagles are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’re unbeaten in their last 4 Away games (2W,2D).

My Prediction: 3-2

Fulham VS Luton

Fulham were thrashed 5-1 by Manchester City before the break and they currently sit 13th in the table as a result. Luton lost 2-1 at home to West Ham last time out and they currently occupy a Relegation spot (19th). In their previous 4 meetings, Fulham have won twice whilst there have also been 2 draws. Luton’s last victory over Fulham came all the way back in 1998 (they beat them twice that year). For Fulham, they’ll expect a victory in this one. The Cottagers are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’ve conceded more penalties than anyone in the league (so far) this season (3). As for Luton Town, they need to try and build their confidence up and that starts with getting a point out of this game. The Hatters are ranked 19th in both GPG (0.7) and GCPG (3.0) which isn’t very good at all.

My Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United VS Brighton

Manchester United welcome Brighton to Old Trafford for what should be a really fascinating match. Manchester United conceded two late goals in their last game as they lost 3-1 at Arsenal, and they currently find themselves in 11th place as a result. Brighton picked up a good 3-1 win at home to Newcastle last time and they currently occupy 6th spot. In their previous 14 meetings, Man United have won 9 times compared to 5 wins for Brighton. It’s worth mentioning that Brighton have won each of their last 3 meetings in the league. For Manchester United, they need to kick-start their season, and a good win here will definitely help their course. United are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve won both of their home games this season. As for Brighton and Hove Albion, there’s no reason why they can’t win this game. The Seagulls are ranked 1st in GPG (3.0) and 2nd in “Big Chances Created” (with 10).

My Prediction: 2-3

Tottenham VS Sheffield United

Tottenham picked up a really good 5-2 win away to Burnley last time out and they are currently second in the league. Sheffield United picked up their first point of the season in a two-all draw with Everton before the break, and they currently sit 17th in the table. In their previous 7 meetings, Spurs have won 3 times whilst Sheffield U have won twice (including earlier in the year). For Tottenham Hotspur, they should keep their good run of form going with a win here. Spurs are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.8) and 3rd in “Big Chances Created” (with 10). As for Sheffield United, there’s no doubt that they’re massive underdogs in this game, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Blades are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they’re yet to win a single game in any/all competitions so far this season.

My Prediction: 4-1

West Ham VS Manchester City

Two teams that tasted European success last year clash at the London Stadium as 4th in the league West Ham host top-of-the-table Manchester City. West Ham picked up a 2-1 win away to Luton last time out to keep their brilliant start to the season going. Manchester City thumped Fulham 5-1 at home in their last game to keep their 100% record intact. In their previous 30 meetings, West Ham have only won twice whilst Man City have won 23 times! For West Ham United, they win this game and they really do have to be taken seriously (if they aren’t already). The Hammers are ranked 4th in GPG (2.3) and they’ve won each of their last 4 Home games. As for Manchester City, this will be a tough game for them, but they’ll still expect to pick up all 3 points. City are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.8) and Erling Haaland is currently the league’s Top Goalscorer (with 6).

My Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle VS Brentford

Newcastle’s difficult start to the season continued last time out when they lost 3-1 away to Brighton. Newcastle are currently only 14th in the league. Brentford scored late to draw two-all with Bournemouth in their last game and they currently find themselves in 8th spot. In their previous 7 meetings, Newcastle have won 5 times compared to just 1 win for Brentford. For Newcastle United, they need to start winning Football matches again. The Magpies are ranked 9th in GPG (1.8) and they are currently on a 3-game losing streak. As for Brentford, they’ll be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign. The Bees are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they haven’t lost since May 6th (8 games ago).

My Prediction: 2-1

Bournemouth VS Chelsea

Bournemouth drew 2-2 away to Brentford in their last game and they currently sit 16th in the table. Chelsea poorly lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest last time out and they find themselves in 12th. In their previous 15 meetings, Bournemouth have won 4 times whilst Chelsea have won 10 times. For AFC Bournemouth, they might have a shot at getting a result from this game. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (1.0) and they are yet to keep a Clean Sheet in any of their 5 matches this season (including Cup games). As for Chelsea, they need to win this game. The Blues are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and nobody’s created more “Big Chances” than them (so far) this season (11).

My Prediction: 1-1

Everton VS Arsenal

Everton picked up their first point of the season last time out against Sheffield United (2-2) and they currently sit inside the Relegation Zone in 18th place. Arsenal beat rivals Manchester United 3-1 in their last game and they currently find themselves in 5th. In their previous 27 meetings, Everton have won 7 times compared to 15 wins for Arsenal. It is worth mentioning, though, that Everton have beaten Arsenal in 4 of their last 5 meetings at Goodison Park. For Everton, they’ll be hoping to impress their brand-new owners with both a good performance and result. The Toffees are currently ranked 20th in GPG (0.5) and they’re yet to keep a Clean Sheet so far this season. As for Arsenal, they should be winning this game comfortably. The Gunners are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they’re on a 6-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

My Prediction: 1-0

Nottingham Forest VS Burnley

Nottingham Forest pulled out a brilliant 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge before the International Break, and they currently sit 9th in the table. Burnley were thrashed 5-2 at home by Tottenham in their last game and they are currently bottom of the league. In their previous 12 meetings, Notts Forest have won twice whilst Burnley have won 6 times. Burnley actually beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the Carabao Cup a couple of weeks ago. For Nottingham Forest, they’ll be aiming to keep up their momentum after a positive start to the season. Forest are ranked 10th in GPG (1.5) and 9th in GCPG (1.5). As for Burnley, they need to get some points on the board. The Clarets are ranked 18th in GPG (1.0) and this is their first away game of the season in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2
