2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 22

Nottingham Forest VS Arsenal

Nottingham Forest lost at Brentford in their last league game before they drew 0-0 with Bristol City in the FA Cup, and they currently sit 16th in the table. When it comes to Arsenal, they thrashed London Rivals Crystal Palace 5-0 last time out and they are currently third in the league. In their previous 7 meetings, Forest have won 3 games compared to Arsenal’s 4. It’s worth mentioning that Forest’s win over Arsenal in this fixture last year was what ultimately ended the visitors’ chances of winning the Premier League. For Nottingham Forest, they can definitely get a result from this game. Forest are ranked 14th in GPG (1.2) and they also currently happen to have the 14th-best home record in the league. As for Arsenal, they really should be winning this game. The Gunners are ranked 5th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the 4th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Fulham VS Everton

Fulham have lost against Chelsea (league) and Newcastle (FA Cup) and also drawn against Liverpool (Carabao Cup) over the last couple of weeks and they currently sit 13th in the table. When it comes to Everton, they drew nil-nil at home to Aston Villa before they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Luton, and they currently find themselves just outside the Relegation Zone in 17th place. In their previous 18 meetings, Fulham have won 5 times whilst Everton have won 9 times. For Fulham, they probably should be winning this game. The Cottagers are ranked 13th in GPG (1.3) and they currently have the 9th-best home record in the league. As for Everton, they need to try and get a result here. The Toffees are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the 6th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-0

Luton VS Brighton

Luton drew 1-1 at Burnley in their last league game before they knocked both Bolton and Everton out of the FA Cup. Luton are currently inside the Relegation Zone in 18th. When it comes to Brighton, they drew 0-0 with Wolves last Monday Night before they beat Sheffield United in the Cup, and they are currently 7th in the league. Brighton won 4-1 in the reverse fixture back on the opening day of the season and this will be their first meeting at Kenilworth Road since 2009 (1-1 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy). For Luton Town, they absolutely can get a result from this game. The Hatters are ranked 15th in GPG (1.2) and they’re currently on a 4-game unbeaten run in all competitions (2W,2D). As for Brighton and Hove Albion, they should win this game. The Seagulls are ranked 7th in GPG (1.8) and they’re currently on a 6-game unbeaten run in all competitions (3W,3D).

My Prediction: 2-2

Crystal Palace VS Sheffield United

Two teams in desperate need of a victory face off as Crystal Palace host Sheffield United at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace were thrashed 5-0 at Arsenal last time out and they currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 7 meetings, Palace have won 4 games whilst United have won 3. For Crystal Palace, they can’t not win this game. The Eagles are ranked 18th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 4th-worst home record in the league. As for Sheffield United, they really need to start winning games now. The Blades are ranked 20th in GPG (0.8) and they currently have the worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0

Aston Villa VS Newcastle

Aston Villa have drawn 0-0 with both Everton and Chelsea in their last couple of games and they are currently 4th in the league. When it comes to Newcastle, they lost late at home to Manchester City in their last league game before they won 2-0 at Fulham in the FA Cup. Newcastle are currently (only) 10th in the league. In their previous 23 meetings, Villa have won 5 games compared to 10 wins for Newcastle. It’s also crazy to think that Newcastle smashed Villa 5-1 on the opening weekend of the season! For Aston Villa, they need to get back to winning ways. Villa are ranked 4th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the best home record in the league. As for Newcastle United, they really need to turn their form (and season) around. The Magpies are ranked 6th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the second-worst away record in the league!

My Prediction: 3-1

Manchester City VS Burnley

Vincent Kompany returns to the Etihad as Manchester City host Burnley. Manchester City have won at both Newcastle and Tottenham in recent weeks and they currently find themselves second in the league. When it comes to Burnley, they controversially drew 1-1 with Luton in their last match and they currently sit inside the Relegation Zone in 19th place. In their previous 19 meetings, Man City have won 16 times compared to just 1 win for Burnley. It’s worth mentioning that City have won all of the previous 11 meetings by an aggregate score of 43-1! For Manchester City, you would fully expect them to win this game comfortably. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.4) and they’re currently on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions (9W,1D). As for Burnley, they may well need a miracle if they’re going to get anything from this one! The Clarets are ranked 19th in GPG (1.0) and they haven’t won any of their last 4 games (1D,3L).

My Prediction: 3-0

Tottenham VS Brentford

Tottenham drew 2-2 with Manchester United in their last league game before they lost against Manchester City, and they currently find themselves 5th in the league. When it comes to Brentford, they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. In their previous 6 meetings, Spurs have won twice whilst Brentford have won once. For Tottenham Hotspur, it’s important for them to win this game. Spurs are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the 6th-best home record in the league. As for Brentford, they will fancy themselves here. The Bees are ranked 10th in GPG (1.5) and they currently have the 4th-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2

Liverpool VS Chelsea

League Leaders Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield for a late Wednesday Night Clash! Liverpool have beaten Bournemouth and Norwich and also advanced to the Carabao Cup Final in the past week and a bit and they are currently top of the league. When it comes to Chelsea, they’ve beaten Fulham and Middlesbrough and also drawn against Aston Villa in their past few matches and they currently sit 9th in the table. In their previous 36 meetings, Liverpool have won 11 games compared to 9 wins for Chelsea. Amazingly, each of their last 7 meetings have ended as a draw (after 90 minutes). For Liverpool, you’d expect them to win this game. The Reds are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.2) and they’re currently on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions (7W,3D). As for Chelsea, they’ll definitely be happy with a point from this one. The Blues are ranked 8th in GPG (1.7) and they also currently happen to have the 8th-best away record in the league.

In their previous 13 meetings, West Ham have won 5 times whilst Bournemouth have won 4. For West Ham United, this is an important game for them. The Hammers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.7) and they currently have the 10th-best home record in the league. As for AFC Bournemouth, they can absolutely get something from this game. The Cherries are ranked 12th in GPG (1.4) and they currently have the 10th-best away record in the league.

For Wolverhampton Wanderers, this is a big opportunity for them. Wolves are ranked 11th in GPG (1.4) and they’re currently on a 7-game unbeaten run in all competitions (5W,2D). As for Manchester United, they can’t afford to lose this game. United are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the 9th-best away record in the league.
