Nottingham Forest VS Sheffield United
Gameweek 2 of the new Premier League Season kicks off with Nottingham Forest hosting Sheffield United Live on Friday Night Football. Nottingham Forest started their campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Arsenal and they currently sit 14th in the table. Sheffield United were slightly disappointing as they returned to the Premier League with a 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace and they find themselves in 16th place as a result. In their previous 11 meetings, Forest have won 3 times whilst United have won 4 times. The last two meetings came in the Championship Playoff Semi-Finals (the year Forest went on to get Promoted). For Nottingham Forest, it’s important that they pick up a victory tonight to build up some confidence. As for Sheffield United, I think it would hurt them quite a bit if they start their return to the Premier League with back-to-back defeats.
My Prediction: 2-0
Fulham VS Brentford
London rivals Fulham and Brentford meet at Craven Cottage for an exciting Premier League tie. Fulham started their season in a positive manner with a victory away from home against Everton (1-0) and they currently sit 6th in the table as a result. Brentford were decent enough to pick up a point in a 2-all draw at home to Tottenham and they currently occupy 8th spot. In their previous 15 meetings, The Cottagers have only won 4 times whilst The Bees have picked up 8 victories. Both of last season’s games ended up with the home side winning 3-2 (that was even the score in the Summer Series back in July). For Fulham, a win here and they can be delighted with their start to the season. As for Brentford, as long as they don’t lose here, they should feel at least or satisfied or even quite happy.
My Prediction: 3-2
Liverpool VS Bournemouth
Liverpool started their new campaign with a one-all draw away to Chelsea and they currently find themselves in 12th. Bournemouth did ok to pick up a draw in their opening game against West Ham and they currently occupy 10th spot. In their previous 15 meetings, The Reds have won a massive 12 times whilst The Cherries have won twice. Bournemouth did win the last game between the two sides, but they’ve never beaten their opponents away from home. For Liverpool, they’ll be looking for a big victory to really kick start their season. As for AFC Bournemouth, they’ll relish being seen as massive underdogs and it might be exactly what they need.
My Prediction: 3-1
Wolves VS Brighton
Wolves were impressive in their opening fixture against Manchester United, but they still lost 1-0 and they find themselves just outside the relegation zone (17th) as a result. Brighton welcomed Luton back to the Premier League by thrashing them 4-1, and they currently occupy second spot as a result. In their previous 18 meetings, Wolves have only won 3 times whilst The Seagulls have won 7 times. Brighton have won the last three meetings by an aggregate score of 12-2. For Wolverhampton Wanderers, they’ll be looking to keep their good home form running in their first game at the Molineux this season. As for Brighton and Hove Albion, they’ll be looking for another good victory that keeps them in the Top 4 by the end of Monday (I know it’s only Gameweek 2, but still).
My Prediction: 0-2
Tottenham VS Manchester United
Tottenham’s first home game under Ange Postecoglou is a big one as they welcome Manchester United Live on Saturday Night Football! Tottenham would’ve/should’ve been happy with a 2-2 draw at Brentford to kick off their season and they currently find themselves in 9th. Manchester United survived against Wolves, but still managed to pick up all 3 points which sees them sit 7th in the table. In their previous 27 meetings, Spurs have won 7 times whilst United have won double that which is quite impressive. For Tottenham Hotspur, a win here and they can be very happy with their start under Ange Postecoglou. As for Manchester United, they need to play much better this weekend than Monday because I don’t think they’ll get nearly as lucky again.
My Prediction: 2-0
Manchester City VS Newcastle
Manchester City return to the Etihad for the “first” time since they won the Treble as they welcome Newcastle in what should be a really exciting game. Manchester City thrashed Burnley on the opening night of the new Premier League Season last week before they won the UEFA Super Cup by beating Sevilla on Penalties. Man City also sit third in the table. Newcastle United pulled out the performance of the opening weekend to destroy Aston Villa 5-1 and they are currently leading the way after the first round of fixtures. In their previous 27 meetings, City have won a massive 22 times compared to just 2 wins for The Magpies. Man City have also won all of the previous 13 league meetings at the Etihad (Newcastle did win 2-0 there in the League Cup). For Manchester City, they’ll want to return home and pick up a really good victory. As for Newcastle United, their confidence will definitely be brimming heading into this one.
My Prediction: 2-1
Aston Villa VS Everton
Both Aston Villa and Everton are heading into this weekend off the back of disappointing losses to start their campaigns. Aston Villa were absolutely hammered 5-1 at Newcastle last Saturday and they currently sit at the bottom of the table as a result. Everton missed so many chances as they lost 1-0 at home to Fulham, and they currently occupy 15th because of it. In their previous 20 meetings, Villa have won 8 times whilst The Toffees have won 6 times. Everton haven’t beaten their opponents in any of their last 8 attempts (2D,6L). For Aston Villa, Unai Emery will be looking for a big response from his team in this one. As for Everton, their fans will not be at all happy if they start the new season with back-to-back defeats.
My Prediction: 3-0
West Ham VS Chelsea
Another London Derby takes place as West Ham welcome Chelsea to the London Stadium (well that’s fitting). West Ham picked up a solid draw to start their season at Bournemouth (1-1) and they currently occupy 13th spot. Chelsea were ok against Liverpool in their first game under Mauricio Pochettino (finished 1-1) and they currently sit 11th in the table. In their previous 25 meetings, The Hammers have won 28% of the time compared to The Blues’ 52%. For West Ham United, they’ll believe they can pick up a positive result in this one. As for Chelsea, it’s important for them that they pick up all 3 points from this game.
My Prediction: 1-2
Crystal Palace VS Arsenal
Crystal Palace welcome Arsenal to Selhurst Park for yet another London Derby! Crystal Palace started their season with a positive 1-0 win at Sheffield United and they currently sit 5th in the table as a result. Arsenal started their campaign with a 2-1 victory at home to Nottingham Forest and they currently occupy a Top 4 spot. In their previous 20 meetings, The Eagles have won just 3 times whilst The Gunners have won 11 times. For Crystal Palace, a positive result here and Roy Hodgson’s men are looking pretty decent. As for Arsenal, it feels like they need to pick up a victory here to prove a point (even if it is only Gameweek 2).
