2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 19

Newcastle VS Nottingham Forest

Boxing Day action kicks off with Newcastle hosting Nottingham Forest at St. James’ Park. Newcastle suffered a poor 1-0 loss at Luton last time out and they are currently 7th in the league. When it comes to Nottingham Forest, they lost late at home to Bournemouth in their last game (2-3) and they currently sit just outside the Relegation Zone in 17th place. In their previous 7 meetings, Newcastle have won 4 times whilst Notts Forest have won 3 times. For Newcastle United, they need to bounce back with a win here. The Magpies are ranked 5th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the second-best home record in the league. As for Nottingham Forest, they also need to find a win from somewhere. Forest are ranked 15th in GPG (1.1) and they’re currently on a 7-game winless run (1D,6L).

My Prediction: 3-1

Bournemouth VS Fulham

Bournemouth managed to win 3-2 at Nottingham Forest in their last game and they currently find themselves 12th in the league. When it comes to Fulham, they suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley last time out and they currently sit 13th in the table. In their previous 8 meetings, Bournemouth have won 4 games compared to just 1 win for Fulham (April 2019). For AFC Bournemouth, they’ll be aiming to keep their great run of form going. The Cherries are ranked 11th in GPG (1.4) and they’re currently on a 6-game unbeaten run (5W,1D). As for Fulham, they’ve got to try and recapture their form again. The Cottagers are ranked 10th in GPG (1.4) and they currently have the 5th-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0

Sheffield United VS Luton

Sheffield United welcome Luton to Bramall Lane for a huge clash near the bottom of the table. Sheffield United were unlucky to only draw at Aston Villa last Friday Night and they currently sit bottom of the table. When it comes to Luton, they picked up a great victory over Newcastle (1-0) last time out and they are currently just inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th). In their previous 4 meetings, both sides have won one game each. For Sheffield United, they kind of have to win this game. The Blades are ranked 20th in GPG (0.7) and they currently have the third-worst home record in the league. As for Luton Town, this is a good opportunity for them to make it back-to-back victories. The Hatters are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the second-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-1

Burnley VS Liverpool

Burnley enter this game off the back of a great 2-0 win at Fulham, but they are still sitting 19th in the table. When it comes to Liverpool, they drew 1-1 at home to Arsenal in their last game and they are currently second in the league. In their previous 14 meetings, Burnley have won twice whilst Liverpool have won 10 times. For Burnley, they’ll do well to get a result from this one. The Clarets are ranked 17th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the worst home record in the league. As for Liverpool, they have to make sure that they don’t slip up in this one. The Reds are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the 4th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Manchester United VS Aston Villa

Manchester United host Aston Villa in an intriguing Boxing Day clash. Manchester United lost 2-0 at West Ham last time out and they currently sit 8th in the table. When it comes to Aston Villa, they could only draw at home to Sheffield United in their last game and they are currently third in the league. In their previous 22 meetings, Man United have won 16 games compared to just the two wins for Villa. For Manchester United, it’s important for them that they win this game. United are ranked 17th in GPG (1.0) and they're currently on a 4-game run without finding the back of the net (1D,3L). As for Aston Villa, they should really be winning this game if they want to be viewed as genuine Title contenders. Villa are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.1) and they’re currently on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions (7W,3D).

My Prediction: 0-2

Brentford VS Wolves

Brentford lost 2-1 at Aston Villa in their last game (over a week ago) and they currently sit 14th in the table. When it comes to Wolves, they beat Chelsea 2-1 on Christmas Eve yesterday and they currently find themselves 11th in the league. In their previous 14 meetings, Brentford have won 4 times whilst Wolves have won 7 times. What I love about this fixture is it’s been played in 3 different leagues (in the last 14 games). For Brentford, they need to start winning Football matches again. The Bees are ranked 11th in GPG (1.4) and they’re currently on a 3-game losing streak. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, there’s no reason why they can’t get a result from this game. Wolves are ranked 13th in GPG (1.3) and they currently have the 15th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2

Chelsea VS Crystal Palace

Chelsea suffered a Christmas Eve defeat at Wolves yesterday and they currently find themselves 10th in the league. When it comes to Crystal Palace, they drew 1-1 at home to Brighton last time out and they currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 21 meetings, Chelsea have won 17 times compared to 4 wins for Palace. For Chelsea, they really need to win this game. The Blues are ranked 9th in GPG (1.6) and they currently have the 13th-best home record in the league. As for Crystal Palace, they can absolutely get something from this game. The Eagles are ranked 17th in GPG (1.0) and they’re currently on a 7-game winless run (3D,4L).

My Prediction: 1-0

Everton VS Manchester City

Everton welcome Club World Champions Manchester City to Goodison Park for what should be quite a good game. Everton lost 2-1 at Tottenham last time out and they currently sit 16th in the table. When it comes to Manchester City, they suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in their last league game before they went to Saudi Arabia and beat Urawa Red Diamonds and Fluminense to become World Champions. Man City are currently 5th in the league. In their previous 29 meetings, Everton have won 6 games compared to City’s 17 wins. For Everton, this is a big test for them. The Toffees are ranked 13th in GPG (1.3) and 4th in GCPG (1.2). As for Manchester City, this feels like a massive game for them. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.4) and they currently have the third-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-1

Brighton VS Tottenham

Brighton host Tottenham in what should be an entertaining encounter. Brighton drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace last Thursday Night and they currently sit 9th in the table. When it comes to Tottenham, they beat Everton 2-1 last time out and they are currently 4th in the league. In their previous 14 meetings. Brighton have won 3 times whilst Spurs have won 10 times. For Brighton and Hove Albion, this is a big chance for them to climb up the Table. The Seagulls are ranked 7th in GPG (1.9) and they’re currently on an 8-game unbeaten home run in all competitions (4W,4D). As for Tottenham Hotspur, this would be a great win for them if they were able to pull it off. Spurs are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2

Arsenal VS West Ham

Arsenal drew 1-1 at Liverpool in their last game and they currently find themselves Top of the League. When it comes to West Ham, they beat Manchester United 2-0 last time out and they currently sit 6th in the table. In their previous 26 meetings, Arsenal have won 19 games whilst West Ham have won 3. West Ham beat Arsenal 3-1 in a Carabao Cup meeting back in November. For Arsenal, they’ll want to ensure that they stay Top of the League for another Gameweek. The Gunners are ranked 5th in GPG (2.0) and they currently have the 4th-best home record in the league. As for West Ham United, they are certainly capable of pulling off an upset in this one. The Hammers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.7) and they currently have the 9th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-1
