2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 17

Nottingham Forest VS Tottenham

Nottingham Forest picked up a decent point at Wolves last weekend and they currently sit 16th in the table. When it comes to Tottenham, they thrashed Newcastle 4-1 last time out and they are currently 5th in the league. In their previous 4 meetings, Notts Forest have won once whilst Spurs have won 3 times. For Nottingham Forest, they’ll be looking to pick up a massive home victory. Forest are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they’re currently on a 5-game winless run (1D,4L). As for Tottenham Hotspur, they shouldn’t slip up here. Spurs are ranked 4th in GPG (2.1) and they also currently have the 4th-best away record in the league.

Bournemouth VS Luton

Bournemouth continued their great run of form as they stunned Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. When it comes to Luton, they were edged out by Manchester City in their last game and they currently occupy a spot inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th). In their previous 5 meetings, both sides have picked up two victories. For AFC Bournemouth, they’ll be wanting to keep their impressive run of form going. The Cherries are ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve managed to pick up a superb 13 points in their last 5 games! As for Luton Town, they could sneak a result here. The Hatters are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the second-worst away record in the league.

Chelsea VS Sheffield United

Chelsea lost 2-0 at Everton last weekend and they currently sit 12th in the table. When it comes to Sheffield United, they picked up a good 1-0 win over Brentford last time out, but they are still currently bottom of the league. In their previous 5 meetings, Chelsea have won 3 times compared to one win for Sheffield U. For Chelsea, they have to win this game convincingly. The Blues are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they currently (only) have the 15th-best home record in the league. As for Sheffield United, they have to go into this game believing they can get a result from it. The Blades are ranked 20th in GPG (0.8) and they also currently have the worst away record in the league (just 1 point from 7 games).

Manchester City VS Crystal Palace

Manchester City picked up victories away to both Luton and Crvena Zvezda over the past 7 days and they are currently 4th in the league. When it comes to Crystal Palace, they lost late at home to Liverpool last weekend and they currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 22 meetings, Man City have won 16 games compared to 3 wins for Palace. For Manchester City, they will want to go into the Club World Cup with a victory under their belt. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.4) and they’re currently on a 30-game unbeaten run at home (28W,2D). As for Crystal Palace, they’ll be hoping to pull off another upset at the Etihad. The Eagles are ranked 19th in GPG (0.9) and they currently have the 8th-best away record in the league.

Newcastle VS Fulham

Newcastle host Fulham in what should be a really intriguing and exciting game. Newcastle were beaten by both Tottenham and AC Milan this past week and they currently find themselves 7th in the league. When it comes to Fulham, they won 5-0 for the second straight game and they currently sit 10th in the table. In their previous 16 meetings, Newcastle have won 7 games whilst Fulham have won 6. For Newcastle United, they need to get back to winning ways. The Magpies are ranked 4th in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the third-best home record in the league. As for Fulham, they’ll be hoping to keep their incredible goal-scoring run going. The Cottagers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they’ve amazingly scored 16 goals in their last 4 games!

Burnley VS Everton

Burnley host Everton in a big (Saturday Night Football) clash for both sides. Burnley picked up a good point at Brighton last weekend, but they are still currently 19th in the league. When it comes to Everton, they beat Chelsea 2-0 last time out and they currently sit 17th in the table. In their previous 15 meetings, Burnley have won 6 times whilst Everton have won 8 times. Everton beat Burnley 3-0 in the Carabao Cup back in November. For Burnley, they are slightly starting to improve at the moment. The Clarets are ranked 18th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the worst home record in the league. As for Everton, they’re playing really well right now. The Toffees are ranked 14th in GPG (1.3) and they’re currently on a 3-game winning run (without conceding a goal).

Arsenal VS Brighton

Arsenal host Brighton at the Emirates in what should be an exciting game. Arsenal lost 1-0 at Aston Villa last weekend before they drew 1-1 at PSV midweek and they currently find themselves second in the league. When it comes to Brighton, they drew 1-1 at home to Burnley in their last league game before they picked up a great win against Marseille last night, and they currently sit 8th in the table. In their previous 15 meetings, both sides have picked up 6 victories. Interestingly, Brighton have won each of the last 3 meetings at the Emirates. For Arsenal, they’ll be hoping to get back to winning ways quickly. The Gunners are ranked 4th in GPG (2.1) and they also currently have the 4th-best home record in the league. As for Brighton and Hove Albion, there’s no reason why they can’t get something from this game. The Seagulls are also ranked 4th in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the 11th-best away record in the league.

Brentford VS Aston Villa

Brentford suffered a poor 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United last weekend and they currently sit 11th in the table. When it comes to Aston Villa, they beat Arsenal 1-0 last weekend before they drew 1-1 at Zrinjski Mostar last night and they currently find themselves third in the league. In their previous 10 meetings, Brentford have won 40% of the time compared to just 10% for Villa. For Brentford, they need to try and turn their form around. The Bees are ranked 11th in GPG (1.1) and they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 games. As for Aston Villa, they’ll be hoping to sort out their frustrating away record. Villa are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.2) and they’re currently on an 8-game unbeaten run in all competitions (6W,2D).

West Ham VS Wolves

West Ham were stunned 5-0 by Fulham last weekend before they beat Freiburg last night and they are currently 9th in the league. When it comes to Wolves, they dropped points at home to Nottingham Forest last time out and they currently sit 13th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, both sides have picked up 6 wins each. For West Ham United, you’d like to think that they should be winning this game. The Hammers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they’re currently on a 5-game unbeaten run at home in all competitions (4W,1D). As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it would be typical of them to go and win this game. Wolves are ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they currently have the 14th-best away record in the league.

Liverpool VS Manchester United

One of the biggest rivalries in football takes centre stage on Super Sunday as Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield. Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last weekend before they lost in Europe (against Union St. Gilloise) last night and they are currently top of the league. When it comes to Manchester United, they’ve lost at home to both Bournemouth and Bayern Munich in the past 7 days and they currently sit 6th in the table. In their previous 32 meetings, Liverpool have won 11 games compared to 13 wins for Man United. For Liverpool, they’ll be wanting to remain at the top of the table at the end of the weekend. The Reds are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.3) and they currently have the second-best home record in the league (7 wins out of 7). As for Manchester United, they need to win this game badly. United are ranked 15th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the 7th-best away record in the league.
