2023/24 Premier League Preview: Gameweek 16

Crystal Palace VS Liverpool

Crystal Palace suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. When it comes to Liverpool, they won 2-0 at Sheffield United on Wednesday and they are currently second in the league. In their previous 21 meetings, Palace have won 4 times whilst Liverpool have won 14 times. Both meetings last season ended in draws. For Crystal Palace, a win here would give them the confidence boost that they really need. The Eagles are ranked 19th in GPG (0.9) and they currently have the third-worst home record in the league. As for Liverpool, they’ll be hoping to end the weekend top of the league. The Reds are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.3) and they’re currently on a 5-game unbeaten run in all competitions (4W,1D).

My Prediction: 0-3

Brighton VS Burnley

Brighton beat Brentford 2-1 midweek and they currently sit 8th in the table. When it comes to Burnley, they lost 1-0 at Wolves last time out and they currently occupy a spot inside the Relegation Zone (19th). In their previous 18 meetings, both teams have won 5 games each. For Brighton and Hove Albion, they really should be winning this game. The Seagulls are ranked 5th in GPG (2.1) and they currently have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for Burnley, anything from this game would be seen as a great result. The Clarets are ranked 18th in GPG (1.0) and they currently have the 4th-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United VS Bournemouth

Manchester United managed to beat Chelsea 2-1 on Wednesday and they currently find themselves 6th in the league. When it comes to Bournemouth, they picked up a really good 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in their last game and they currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 9 meetings, Man U have won 9 games compared to Bournemouth’s 2. For Manchester United, they should win this game. United are ranked 13th in GPG (1.2) and they currently have the 7th-best home record in the league. As for AFC Bournemouth, there’s no reason why they can’t get something from this game. The Cherries are also ranked 13th in GPG (1.2) and they’re currently on a 4-game unbeaten run (3W,1D).

My Prediction: 1-0

Sheffield United VS Brentford

Sheffield United lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool midweek and they currently find themselves bottom of the league. When it comes to Brentford, they lost 2-1 at Brighton last time out and they currently sit 11th in the table. In their previous 10 meetings, Sheffield United have won 50% of the time whilst Brentford have (only) won 20% of the time. What I like about this fixture is it’s taken place in both the Championship and League 1 over the past 10 years. For Sheffield United, they need to start building their confidence up. The Blades are ranked 20th in both GPG (0.7) and GCPG (2.7). As for Brentford, I’d be surprised if they didn’t end up winning this game. The Bees are ranked 10th in GPG (1.5) and 8th in GCPG (1.4).

My Prediction: 0-2

Wolves VS Nottingham Forest

Wolves beat Burnley 1-0 at home on Tuesday Night and they currently sit 13th in the table. When it comes to Nottingham Forest, they got completely humiliated in a 5-0 thumping at Fulham last time out and they currently occupy 16th spot. In their previous 14 meetings, Wolves have won times whilst Notts Forest have won 4 times. For Wolverhampton Wanderers, they really should be winning this game. Wolves are ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they’re currently on a 5-game unbeaten run at home (3W,2D). As for Nottingham Forest, Steve Cooper has to win this game if he wants to still have a job come next week. Forest are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the second-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0

Aston Villa VS Arsenal

In the game of the weekend, Aston Villa welcome league leaders Arsenal to Villa Park! Aston Villa pulled out a terrific performance to beat Manchester City midweek and they currently sit third in the table. When it comes to Arsenal, they scored late in 4-3 win over Luton and they are currently top of the Premier League. In their previous 22 meetings, Villa have won 5 games compared to 16 wins for Arsenal. Arsenal did the double of Aston Villa in both of the last two seasons. For Aston Villa, they win this game and I think you genuinely have to view them as Title contenders! Villa are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.3) and they currently have the best home record in the league (7 wins from 7). As for Arsenal, this is a proper test for them. The Gunners are ranked 4th in GPG (2.2) and they currently have the best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-1

Everton VS Chelsea

Everton pulled out a terrific performance to thrash Newcastle 3-0 last night and they currently sit 17th in the table. When it comes to Chelsea, they lost 2-1 at Manchester United in their last game and they currently find themselves in 10th. In their previous 31 meetings, Everton have won 9 times whilst Chelsea have won 14 times. For Everton, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t fancy themselves to win this game. The Toffees are ranked 13th in GPG (1.2) and they currently have the 5th-worst home record in the league. As for Chelsea, they need to bounce back with a win here. The Blues are ranked 8th in GPG (1.7) and they currently have the 10th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0

Fulham VS West Ham

Fulham smashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 in their last game and they currently sit 12th in the table. When it comes to West Ham, they picked up a terrific victory at Tottenham last night and they are currently 9th in the league. In their previous 12 meetings, Fulham have only won two games compared to 8 wins for West Ham. Fulham’s last win over West Ham was all the way back in 2014. For Fulham, they’ll want to keep up their momentum after a terrific Wednesday night. The Cottagers are ranked 11th in GPG (1.4) and they currently have the 9th-best home record in the league. As for West Ham United, they’re playing really well right now and they’ll hope that continues on Sunday. The Hammers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.7) and they currently have the 5th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Luton VS Manchester City

Manchester City travel to Kenilworth Road for what must be some kind of a dream game for the Luton supporters. Luton were unlucky to lose 4-3 at home to Arsenal midweek and they currently sit inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th place). When it comes to Manchester City, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa last time out and they are currently (only) 4th in the league. The last meeting between these two sides took place in Division 2 back in 1999 (City won 2-0). For Luton Town, they have to once again go out there and enjoy this game whilst also showing composure at the end. The Hatters are ranked 16th in GPG (1.1) and they currently have the 4th-worst home record in the league. As for Manchester City, they have to get back to winning ways in this one. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.4) and they’re currently on a 4-game winless run in the league (3D,1L).

My Prediction: 2-3

Tottenham VS Newcastle

Tottenham host Newcastle in the second part of this weekend’s Super Sunday. Tottenham suffered a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against West Ham last night and they currently find themselves 5th in the league. When it comes to Newcastle, they were thrashed 3-0 by Everton last time out and they currently sit 7th in the table. In their previous 25 meetings, Spurs have won 13 games compared to Newcastle’s 8. Newcastle did do the double over Spurs last season though. For Tottenham Hotspur, they have to win this game. Spurs are ranked 7th in GPG (1.9) and they haven’t won any of their last 5 matches (1D,4L). As for Newcastle United, a win here would be massive for them. The Magpies are ranked 5th in GPG (2.1), but they currently have the 5th-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2
