Burnley VS Manchester City
The Premier League returns with Championship Champions Burnley hosting Premier League Champions Manchester City. Burnley had an incredible Championship campaign where they only lost 3 games and got over 100 points whilst Manchester City went on to secure a historic treble. In their previous 18 meetings, Burnley have won just once whilst Man City have won 15 times. Burnley’s last win against City came in 2015 whilst the aggregate score in the last 11 games is 41-1 in City’s favour. For Burnley, they’ll be wanting to kickstart their Premier League return in style whilst Vincent Kompany will look to get one over on his former club. As for Manchester City, they’ll definitely be aiming to start their Premier League title defence in a good way.
My Prediction: 2-2
Arsenal VS Nottingham Forest
Arsenal host Nottingham Forest in the first Premier League game live on TNT Sports! Arsenal came so close, yet so far from winning the Premier League last season whilst Nottingham Forest managed to stay up after a rocky start. In their previous 6 meetings, both sides have won 3 times and only 1 meeting saw both teams find the back of the net (4-2 Forest). For Arsenal, they’ll be looking to send a message in their opening game of the season by picking up a big win. As for Nottingham Forest, whilst this might be a tough game, it’s also an opportunity for Forest to make a statement about their intentions for the upcoming campaign.
My Prediction: 4-1
Bournemouth VS West Ham
Both Bournemouth and West Ham enter the new season with major changes. Bournemouth had a positive first season back in the Premier League as they managed to stay up whilst West Ham were a little disappointing, even though their season did end with European Glory. In their previous 12 meetings, The Cherries have won 4 times whilst The Hammers have won 5 times. For AFC Bournemouth, they’ll be looking for a good start under new manager Andoni Iraola. As for West Ham United, it’ll be interesting to see how they get on now that they no longer have Club Captain and star man Declan Rice.
My Prediction: 2-0
Brighton VS Luton
Both Brighton and Luton head into the new season of the back of a hell of a 2022/23 campaign. Brighton were brilliant last year as they finished 6th in the league and secured Europa League Football whilst Luton continued their brilliant rise up the leagues by winning the Championship Playoff Final. Funnily enough, you have to go all the way back to 2009 for the last time that The Seagulls and The Hatters played, and that was in the Semi-Finals of the-then named Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. For Brighton and Hove Albion, they’ll be expecting to start the season in a positive manner with a victory here. As for Luton Town, they deserve to enjoy this moment, but they will also need to give it their all if they’re going to get something from this game.
My Prediction: 3-1
Everton VS Fulham
Everton and Fulham meet on the opening day of the season after completely different 2022/23 campaigns. Everton underdelivered again and just about survived last year (again) whilst Fulham massively over-delivered and ended up finishing inside the top half of the table. In their previous 16 meetings, The Toffees have won 9 times compared to Fulham’s 4. For Everton, it feels pretty important for them to start this season on a good note. As for Fulham, I’m very intrigued to see how they get on this year and this game presents a good opportunity for them.
My Prediction: 0-0
Sheffield United VS Crystal Palace
Sheffield United return to the Premier League by welcoming Crystal Palace to Bramall Lane. Sheffield United had a great season last year and fully deserved to get promoted whilst super Roy Hodgson returned and guided Crystal Palace to an 11th-place finish. In their previous 6 meetings, both sides have won 3 games and only one of those games has seen both sides score (3-2 United). For Sheffield United, the fans deserve to see their team back in the Premier League and The Blades will be hoping to reward them with a positive result. As for Crystal Palace, I think this game will tell us a lot about The Eagles’ ability for this upcoming season.
My Prediction: 1-0
Newcastle VS Aston Villa
Newcastle host Aston Villa in the first Saturday Night Football of the season. Newcastle had an incredible season last year as they managed to earn themselves a spot in the UEFA Champions League whilst Aston Villa had a brilliant second half of the season which resulted in them qualifying for this year’s UEFA Europa Conference League. In their previous 22 meetings, The Magpies have won 9 times whilst Villa have won 5 times. For Newcastle United, they’ll be aiming to start the new season with a victory. As for Aston Villa, what a statement they would make if they were to pick up all 3 points in this one.
My Prediction: 2-1
Brentford VS Tottenham
The first of many London derbies takes place on the opening weekend of the season as Brentford welcome Tottenham to the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford were superb last year and fully merited a top-10 finish whilst Tottenham struggled and failed to make it into Europe. In their previous 5 meetings, The Bees have only won once whilst Spurs have won twice. For Brentford, I’m very intrigued to see how they’re going to get on with their main man Ivan Toney. As for Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou will look to start off his reign as Spurs manager in a positive manner, but by the looks of it, he’s going to have to do it without Harry Kane.
My Prediction: 3-0
Chelsea VS Liverpool
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have a lot to prove heading into the new campaign. Chelsea were awful last year as they finished closer to relegation than Europe whilst Liverpool way underdelivered and only finished 5th. In their previous 36 meetings, The Blues have won 10 times whilst The Reds have won just once more. For Chelsea, they need to try and prove a point under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. As for Liverpool, it’s important that they start the new season with a positive result and that’s exactly what Jurgen Klopp will be aiming to do.
My Prediction: 0-0
Manchester United VS Wolves
Manchester United kick off their new season by welcoming Wolves to Old Trafford. Manchester United had a positive first season under Eric ten Hag and will be looking to build from it whilst Wolves had a bit of a rollercoaster season. In their previous 18 meetings, United have won 10 times whilst Wolves have won 4 times. For Manchester United, they’ll be expecting to start the new season with a bang. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s all change for them as Gary O’Neil replaces Julen Lopetegui whilst they’ll also be without Ruben Neves (and others).
