2023/24 Major Finals Roundup Special

UEFA Europa League Final: Atalanta 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Atalanta tasted European glory for the first time ever as Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten season finally came to an end. After just 12 minutes, Atalanta had the lead as Ademola Lookman scored after a nice bit of movement. In the 26th minute, it was 2-0 as Lookman scored again! This was a superb solo goal! Alejandro Grimaldo then had a good chance to make it 2-1 which he failed to take before the victory for Atalanta was secured in the 75th minute as Ademola Lookman completely a terrific hat-trick! Overall, what a special night for Atalanta! Atalanta will now have the privilege of playing in the Champions League next season! As for Bayer Leverkusen, it just wasn’t meant to be for them! However, it’s still been a terrific season for Leverkusen who end the year with a domestic double!



FA Cup Final: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United

Manchester United stunned Local Rivals Manchester City to win the FA Cup and earn a place in Europe next season! Manchester City probably should’ve had a penalty inside 60 seconds after Erling Haaland was brought down, but that wasn’t given and after a horrible mix-up between Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega, Alejandro Garnacho tapped the ball into the back of an empty net to give Manchester United the lead after 30! Just 9 minutes later and it was 2-0 to Man United as Kobbie Mainoo scored after a lovely pass from Bruno Fernandes. In the Second Half, Erling Haaland smashed the crossbar for Manchester City before Andre Onana made a really good save to keep Kyle Walker’s effort out. Julian Alvarez then had a golden opportunity which he poorly dragged wide before Man City finally had one back in the 87th minute through Jeremy Doku. To be honest, Onana should’ve saved this! In the end, this was a poor way for Manchester City to end their season. They will now look to go again when the new season starts. As for Manchester United, what a result this is for them! Despite a tough season, a win here means United will play in Europe next year!



Championship Playoff Final: Leeds 0-1 Southampton

It was smiles all round for Southampton as they knocked off Leeds United to book their return ticket to the Premier League. After 24 minutes, it was Southampton who took the lead courtesy of a great finish from Adam Armstrong. Illan Meslier then made a good save to deny Armstrong a second before Samuel Edozie had a good opportunity which he failed to hit the target with. Daniel James then did superbly well, but his effort came crashing back off the crossbar before Alex McCarthy made a good save to push James’ effort out. In the end, it’s a tough loss to take if you’re Leeds United. Leeds will now have to move on from this and push for Promotion again next year! As for Southampton, it’s Promotion time for them! The Saints will now be hoping for a much better year in the Premier League than in the 2022/23 Season.



UEFA Europa Conference League Final: Olympiacos 1-0 Fiorentina (AET)

Olympiacos’ European Dream became a reality as Fiorentina suffered another heart-breaking defeat! Pietro Terracciano made a decent save to keep Daniel Podence’s effort out before Fiorentina had a goal ruled out for offside. Giacomo Bonaventura then had a great opportunity to put Fiorentina ahead which he failed to take before Konstantinos Tzolakis made a great save to deny Christian Kouame. Vicente Iborra then came within a whisker of heading Olympiacos in front before the game finished at 0-0, meaning it was time for Extra Time! Jonathan Ikone had a decent chance which he failed to get a clean connection on before finally, in the 116th minute, Olympiacos had the lead as Ayoub El Kaabi headed home after a terrific ball in from Santiago Hezze. Overall, it’s the biggest and most wonderful night in Olympiacos’ footballing history! Well done to them, see you in the Europa League next season! As for Fiorentina, it’s another heart-breaking defeat for them. Still, they did a great job to make it this far again!



UEFA Champions League Final: Borussia Dortmund 0-2 Real Madrid

Borussia Dortmund’s dream ended as Real Madrid continued their dominance over the UEFA Champions League Trophy! Julian Brandt had a good chance early on which he dragged wide before Niclas Fullkrug hit the post in another good opportunity for Borussia Dortmund. Thibaut Courtois then made a couple of decent saves to keep the game at nil-nil before Toni Kroos had his free-kick saved early in the Second Half. Dani Carvajal then had a really good opportunity which he headed over the bar before Fullkrug had a half chance which he headed straight at Courtois. In the 74th minute, Real Madrid managed to take the lead as this time, Dani Carvajal did head the ball into the back of the net! Jude Bellingham then had a great chance to make it 2-0, but his effort was blocked brilliantly by Nico Schlotterbeck before a mistake by Ian Maatsen led to Vinicius Junior scoring in the 83rd minute to seal yet another Champions League Title for Madrid! In the end, this is a really tough one to take for Borussia Dortmund cause they could’ve won this game. Still, congrats to Dortmund on a terrific season that’s earned them a spot in the Champions League again next year. As for Real Madrid, they are truly unstoppable in this competition. Madrid, Champions of Europe, yet again!
